Wrote the song in about 15 minutes in the morning, then spent five hours recording it late at night. That's FAWM.

Piano, clav, and Motown bass played on a keyboard using Logic Pro sounds. Drums are Logic Pro. Ukelele and Ibanez hollow-body electric. Extra percussion from Klevgrand's Borsta. With a cameo from Mr. Collie at the end of the bridge.

Lyrics

Sometimes you just have to say sorry.

This is great. Imaginative arrangement. Nice back-and-forth between voice and lead guitar. And I love how those big juicy chords end in a sort of apologetic shrug. You're forgiven, Jon!

I like that lead guitar when it comes in! But are you really (really?) sorry? I love the underlying satirical meaning ato it all!

Lovely idea for a song, and the repetition of the wonderful I'm sorry melody really glues it all together. Loved the arrangement, definitely a 70s vibe with those shuffling drums and that EP giving the piano a bit of texture support. Just a grand way to spend a couple of minutes and change nodding happily away at my desk. Great work.

This has the easy and intense charm and wit and gravity of some of those great solo John Lennon albums- it'd be right at home on walls and bridges (maybe with a little harry nillson on background vocals) all to say, that i really love this! great work all around!

Oh, the way those lists of remorseful thoughts swirl around through a whole life. For me the music seems like it’s about living in spite of all these imperfections. Being able to hold regrets and keep going. I like how it could be sung as a partner or a parent or maybe even a petitioner to God.

Cool that you picked up on the "go on despite the imperfections". Musically, sitting on the root chord so much was my way of trying to communicate simple honesty instead of convoluted excuses, and simple steadiness instead of living in the regret space. You're a good listener!

it is interesting to hear a song in this style being sung in a single voice, as it sounds like a song the platters would do. i like the gentle feel here as opposed to the barbershop hamrmonies that might be expected. a single voice is also more fitting for the subject matter although the phrase "im sorry|" itself is straight from the doo wop lexicon.

Awhile back, there was a novelty song that used a looped sample of the then deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg, saying “I’m sorry”. Couldn’t help having that in the back of my mind here, which is unfair on this song as it’s a really classic and classy bit of 60s inflected songwriting. Great chord progression, cool solo, you can’t be sorry for sharing this one…

of that woke up both ears in a wobbly style. John that's more times than some say in a lifetime- Lovely guitar!

Mr. Collie rocks!!! Amazing production and chops! Wow!

I needed to know and it was fun to play along. That move from the 1 to the 2 chord followed by the 1, 1+, 4, 4-... delish! Cool song.

You have no reason to apologize for the chord progression and melody, for sure! Lovely work.

I'm not sorry I heard this song! That guitar solo is awesome and the production is top notch. Such a groovy tune!
