Showing Up
by @chrissteele
Liner Notes
Tried to write a song about continuing to fight the fight when everything around is chaos and unlike anything we had planned for or thought possible. True at a personal, family, and of course societal level. Carrying on a theme moving forward.
Not a perfect take, but wanted to get it down so I could remember it. :)
Lyrics
Showing up (song)
G - A - C - G - F - C The only certain thing is change The old world that we had known But that’s not the world that I see While I’m standing here alone
We build our plans within confines We draw them careful, clean, and near But we don’t move in simple lines And god laughs when plans are clear
(ch) C - D - G - C (x2) The world shifts And we choose our place to stand No map, no proof, no second chance Cross the line because you can Not because it makes sense (A - C - D)
(v2) G - A - C - G - F - C We spend our lives building machines For the answers they may find But the cruelest joke of all Is that the question remains behind
(Br) (Em step up) No sign appears No voice explains There’s no light in the sky That says what it means
(v2.5) We still play this foolish game To stand in front of random fate And yet I’ll still keep showing up In the hope it’s not too late
(ch) The world shifts And we choose our place to stand No map, no proof, no second chance You cross the line because you can Not because it makes sense

The 12-string sounds great, as does your voice. I really like how the melody shifts up higher just when I want it to. The chorus is my favorite section of the lyric -- it just makes sense and I like how the melody lifts and leads us to the next thought.
Nice! I really like it! Great voice and guitar playing! It has a really nice melody. And I like how you put the bridge in the middle of verse 2. Nice job!
"Cross the line because you can, not because it makes sense." Great advice for FAWM! And you play that 12 string nicely.
