Liner Notes

This was for the "Eight my Words" skirmish. Here are the original word we had to incorporate into the song: hold · light · break · run · pocket · fall · edge · still

I went for a drive earlier to drop my wife off to see a friend. While driving, I was listening to Zoe Muth and the High Rollers - so I guess that's why this came out COUNTRY and included road based images.

When I saw the challenge I had a clear idea that I would write a three chord country song in my favourite key "G" - so it was easy to set up a backing track on Band in a Box

Lyrics came first though, as usual for me.

Lyrics

Even in the stillest of nights I can still see the light Though my pocket's empty as a desert in the sun I hold on to a picture of you Back when you were true I can never imagine you with another one

When you think the good times will last forever That's often when the curtain's about to fall When you're cruising through the night Ignoring the tail lights The crash that's coming may be worse than a close call

You said we needed a break I told you that was a mistake If you go too near the edge you risk it all You said I was longer fun And you'd decided to run It was all you wrote in the note I found in the hall

CHORUS

Three Chord Trick in G

Golly. That's both kinds of music- country AND western. A classic hurtin' song.

My Dad was a massive Country (and Western) fan. So that was the soundtrack to my childhood. The influence sticks.

Great prosody, the music certainly fits the words. I feel the need to saddle up to a bar and express my whoas in non verbal utterances. Really great write.

Thanks pardner! Much obliged! Yee ha! 😁

Fab country song. Good lyrics and really fine country voice Enjoyed

Thanks. My Dad was a massive country fan, so I was brought up listening to famous (and a lot of obscure) Bluegrass and Country singers.

Such a honky tonk feel here. It feels so complete for a skirmish. Great writing.

Thanks. It was handy that I knew that particular Band in a Box style had a pedal steel on it. They say "country" like no other instrument.

Oh yeah loving the late night country music bar feel of this one! That chorus is a killer. I wish I could write a 3 chord song so well. Kudos 😊

Cheers, Andy. I dip into the old "Three Chords and the Truth" genre a lot. I wish I knew more chords though.

At Xmas, I treated myself to a programme that helped you chain chords together that went beyond my usual "cowboy chords". Sadly, it kept hanging and after a great deal of emails with the tech staff, the conclusion was. "It must be your PC that's at fault!" - Not exactly helpful.

lots of memorable lines here. the music and performance reminds me of mick jagger;'s take on country in the beggars' banquet ' album.

One of my favourite albums! So maybe that was in there somewhere. But I was also brought up on country music - it's massive among Irish people. My dad was a fan of bluegrass and also country ballads and they were the music of my childhood. That and my Mom's devotion to Film Musicals.

Berni goes off singing "There's a place for us...."

I'm super duper here for FAWM country. Yep!
