Liner Notes

wanted to keep y'all on your toes and switch up the vibe again. this one came out of a co-session with my sister where we give each other prompts and this time she gave me "lily pad". of her many talents, she is a saxophone player, so i added a sax layer to the song (next time we have to encourage her into playing live for it...) i had the idea for "if you want to get high come take a flight" for a while and it finally felt like it fit in this little hazy dreampop mix.

if you've been following me you know i've been slowly releasing track by track my newest album, dial tone, over the course of this month. i wove in different elements of phone/call motifs and imagery across the 14 tracks and i felt pretty psyched that i could make some references to that and a nod to the name in this song as well.

something super fun, silly, and dynamic. i tried to incorporate some surprises and if you listen close enough you can hear my chocolate lab, ruby, digging in the background on the beat at around 2:28-2:31 in.

thx tt, love you and you're my favorite person ♡

Lyrics

when the night blooms a thousands stars under a full moon right where we are when the water’s cold and you’re feeling sad i’ll keep you warm under my lily pad

if you wanna get high you can take a flight beam you up to my spaceship tonight tonight

if you wanna get going on your own call me back when you’re all alone just wait for the dial tone and phone home

look out your window you can see the whole sky from here hold your breath i’ll take you through the stratosphere k-i-s-s-i-n-g through satellites i hear you sing as we play house on saturn’s rings years a million light years away

if you wanna get high you can take a flight beam you up to my spaceship tonight tonight

if you wanna get going on your own call me back when you’re all alone just wait for the dial tone and phone home

if you wanna get high you can take a flight beam you up to my spaceship tonight tonight

if you wanna get going on your own call me back when you’re all alone just wait for the dial tone and phone home

The delicate vocal works very well here. It’s mesmerizing (in a good way.) I also like this line: “Call me back when you’re all alone.” Very intriguing.

thank you! i love that line too :))

Once again, it's beautiful. I love this dreamy lo-fi atmosphere! The saxophone is a great addition, very captivating!

Ethereal! Wonderful! Such Ambience!

So dreamy! Your vocals are lovely, and the effects create a beautiful vibe. The instrumentation brings it all together. Good luck with your album release!

Loved this so much, I didn't want it to end 😆 Loved the spacey vibe and love LOVE the ET reference and congrats on getting your album reference in there as well. What a fun idea for an album. I love adding easter eggs. Purely for my own amusement. So so good

aw yay!! thank you so much. i'm so glad you enjoyed!! ♡

@smiley

The title brings me back to that infamous 1980s movie. The sentiments of this remind of what ET would say. Very nice mix. I like the space imagery you use. Very good changes and lifts. Nice vocals. Excellente!

thank you!! (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.゚ appreciate that time you took to listen and comment!

I see below that someone else beat me to the Mazzy Star flashback. This is dream pop to actually seek to dream to. So glad that your nice comment on my 21st Century Lullaby song lead me to your page, and to this song. Simply a beautiful listening experience.

such a wonderful comment, thank you so much for the kind words. i appreciate you stopping by and listening!

This has some cool layering and such again. Nicely done!

[pic]

thank you! i'm a layer maximizer (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.゚which means being intentional about volume and panning. glad it didn't get lost in the mix!

[pic]

You are very talented. I love it all of them. How do you make your music?

[pic]

hi! thanks for the kind comment @honketterene and q! this is such a complicated answer but i will try to make it short and sweet!

software: garageband, macbook pro 2024 equipment: yamaha ew300 keyboard, arturia mini lab3, roland e-4, and a yeti blue microphone.

no two of my songs start out the same! when i approach a song, i like to think about layers and textures. this month i challenged myself to get outside my comfort zone - key and tempo changes, different time signatures, jazzy chord progressions etc. if the song isn't informed or started by lyrics, i like to begin with a nice beat to ground. everything, every piece is interconnected with the emotional through-line of the piece and what i'm trying to say. i also like to hide little easter eggs in my songs (for example, this track length is 4:20 to reflect the kind of fun "getting high...spaceship tonight" line and the lyrics are a nod to my album dial tone.)

if i'm thinking more surgically: beat/drums, bass layer, lead synth/keys/melody, a few chord progression backing tracks, vocals on vocals. i am a band and theater nerd at heart so i always try to incorporate orchestration (strings, brass, woodwinds, etc.)

let me know if you have more questions and feel free to reach out via email! ♡ happy fawm.

Thank you for such an in-depth answer I love it. I will see if my bandmates would like to get in one of mine with me. Happy Valentine's Day & FAWM!!

Great vibe on this song! It is painting the lyrics beautifully.

[pic]

thanks so much for listening and stopping by!

The melody is really beautiful and the bass synth also really fit the style. Your voice reminds me a bit of Hope Sandoval. And yeah, would love to hear a version with a saxophone melody in it!

[pic]

shut up!! you just made my day. i am easily the biggest mazzy star fan there is. thank you so much for the kind words and i'll make sure to give my sis a nudge ;))

[pic]

so, i realliy like all of your stuff...would you like to collab...

like, we both do garageband...i'd love to take some of your dreamy words and apply some dreamy guitar

[pic]

hey! thanks so much that's kind of you. i'm working on finishing up my album in the next week or so, and i'm trying to keep the door open for collabs after that in the spirit of fawm :)) can't make promises but would love to chat more. feel free to reach out via email!
