#acoustic #singersongwriter #statefair #summerlove I had this idea back in late summer when the MN State Fair began. I remembered having dates as a young man and taking the sky ride which travels over the entire fair from end to end. The MN State fair is a huge deal in Minnesota that everyone seems to love. This story is fictional, but does visit a theme most can relate to.
Lyrics
They stepped upon the platform and climbed inside the glass doors the tiny capsule shuddered and they rocked forward
Refrain: They held each others hands and sat side by side gazing down above the fairgrounds on the sky ride
The late summer sky was deep blue and high the young couple smiled and peered into each others eyes
The young man knew he could not miss and so he stole a kiss He knew he had to take a chance at his first summer romance

And then the ride was over They walked through the midway they talked a lot like lovers as the sunshine slipped away
It was time to say good night asked if he could see her later But the young girl changed her mind he didn’t know why she hesitated
He never saw her again After that late summer night But he never forgot her eyes On the sky ride

You really connected with me instantly with the title and description, the sky ride(s) always makes a trip to MN State Fair complete. It’s an exhilarating experience to quietly glide over the mass of humanity getting their State Fair on in whatever category they prefer. It makes a perfect setting for an innocent love story. I loved Todd’s metaphorical interpretation about taking chances, this is such a relatable song for everyone.

The Sky Ride as a title/metaphor works really well. Shooting for the skies. Taking a chance. Up in the clouds. I’ve experienced this kind of thing several times. When you’re just sure things are good and yet somehow it ends before it ever gets started. You captured that well. That longing and remembering of what could have been is sort of a theme going through some of your songs this year, especially Photo Booth and Santa Cruz. Maybe to some extent Talking In Her Sleep too. Nice job!

A nostalgic feel of those memories that stick with a person, long after the event.I still wonder how some of those folks are doing - wondering, if they occasionally wonder about me. Nice guitar playing.singing - the reverb adds to the "remembering from a distance" vibe

the reverb on the guitar of this one is so dreamy... feels nostalgic, and the lyrics certainly play into that! i never had anything like this happen, but it's making me feel it!
