Liner Notes

#iloveshortsongs #oddtimesignature #existentialism #nonsense I tend to by rhythmically challenged, so I'm normally mired in 4/4 with a steady back beat. I've been trying to break out of that rut by playing around with 5/4 this month. Somehow, this song appears to start in 6/4 before making it to 5/4 in the chorus. I wasn't really counting. Obviously, this is a very deep statement about the absurdity of the human condition, unless it's complete nonsense. Let me know.

Lyrics

Let them eat cake! Tell me Could that be a bad thing Red velvet Blackout Boston cream

Most things we don’t do for money Most things we don’t do for love Most days we’re just fucking up

But you say I say let them eat cake As if that might be a bad thing But a Bundt cake is a magic ring

Most things we don’t do for money Most things we don’t do for love Most days we’re just fucking up

This has a really nice, relaxed feel. Song could easily go on for another three minutes. I can't get my head around 5/4, but it sounds great here. Lyrics typically enigmatic and colorful.

Just wonderful, and the perfect length. Love the vocal delivery and the gentle backing. And the chorus is a pretty accurate description of life.

Love it! So much tenderness packed into 50 seconds . I didn’t know existentialism was a valid tag on fawm 😀

A Bundt cake is a magic ring !! brilliant ! :-)

50 seconds of pure pop bliss. And yes, like everything you do, I'm definitely hearing and feeling deep commentary on the melancholic human condition (and certainly not "complete nonsense")! More, please!

I'm a shocker at time counting but somehow manage to plod along. I never even noticed the change. An ode to the bundt no less. Hard to eat cake without a head .

Wow, you seemed to have crammed a lot into 50 seconds. Such a complete sounding track.

To be honest I never notice time signature changes, I've done songs before on the guitar, then gone to do the drums and they go out of time at the chorus, then after hours of frustration over my drumming skills I realise I've gone from 4/4 to something weird...

Apparently The Beatles did it all the time so I guess I'm in good company...

This has a very cool sound to it. The time signature change works perfectly. I enjoyed my listen.

It sounds really natural and fluent rhytmically, like it's just like it's supposed to be, totally aligned with the feel of the track. Very elegant in it's simplicity and great vocal as always. I both love the perfectly calculated shortness of it and wish it was longer!

I love oddd time sigs, and this is so smooth. Congrats. The transitions ... can't tell ... and that's the key - following the melody. Love 'magic ring' and the pop path chunks are so short you can't get into a rut. Not nonsense, deserves many playbacks. Keep it up!

That chorus and the lyrical hook are perfect.

i think it has been a misunderstood phrase, as the original french translates as "let them eat brioche" which is not as good as cake, but better than bread. so the saying is not diminishing the appeal of cake, but expresses an ignorance of the poor to afford it. not unlike marx's line that "religion is the opium of the people." he is not knocking religion, just saying that the peasants can not afford opium for escapist ecstasy, so religion will give them a similar high at no cost.

Love the chorus! Short and sweet are some of my favourite songs. And the time signature here keeps you on your toes and makes everything sound fresh.
