to speak

Challenge: SAWTOOTH MELODYLiner Notes
After 10 days it's about time I finish a song. I'm glad it's finally finished, since of course I ran out of patience with the thing.
This one is about both tension and connection, simultaneously. Just a bit of sawtooth melody in there.
Lyrics
to speak
if I don’t have words, what will I say to you? explain, dissent? But you can see it too all my cards on the table all my cards on the table
Yet I can see, as well as I am seen words are just one of many ways to speak ideas and fleeting pictures like rivers between our spirits flow
quiet then I will not hinder the currents of a silver river trickling through the space between the earth and sky so great the distance between your heart and mine so great the distance between your heart and mine

Love the composition in that entire last block of text ("quiet..."). Well written. The background vocals add a lot to the arrangement.
Beautiful. What a lovely concept "words are just one of many ways to speak" is. So true! Fun arrangement, too; that wobbly piano adds so much character to this.
Good to hear you again. For me this is a good reminder that there are deep ways to connect with people other that through words, words, words. Also that not everyone has that torrent of consciousness in the form of words to dip into constantly.
One of the most beautiful songs I have heard this FAWM, just lovely in all sense, I'm just enchanted <3 Though, a technical note: try a low cut on the vox!
Woww, gorgeous lyrics. "Currents of silver river trickling from space." Something in the melody and phrasing reminds me of a (much gentler) Bjork. Beautiful vocal & piano delivery as well
Loved the Flow-o-o-o-o! I also like the imagery: currents of a silver river/trickling through the space between the earth and sky. Mmmm. Goes perfectly with the lovely music.
This song is both moving and pleasant. Your smooth vocals mesh nicely with the keys. Nicely done!
Beautiful piece! The lyrics are gloriously evocative and blend perfectly with the melody.
The piano provides a semi-haunting background to the lovely melody and the sad story of the lyrics. Congrats on getting your 2026 FAWM underway!
Lovely song. The rolling piano motif is beautiful - and I love that you recorded in the upright. The words are so poetic and lyrical. Loads of beautiful phrases, but I especially like "quiet then, I will not hinder the currents of a silver river". Very nice.
