Lyrics

“Are you leaving?” she said, In the back of his head he pretended he wanted to stay But he made for the door, picked his things off the floor Said tomorrow would be like today “Oh, I see how it is,” said the wolf on the bed And she bit out a smile he could taste “Oh, come on,” said the hare, “now that’s hardly fair,” “We both know that we’re going to waste.”

What’s to make of you and me? What’s the point of coming clean? I’m afraid of everything, And you will always be hungry

“Don’t be hasty,” she said with her jaws ‘round his head, And he laughed like he knew what she meant “No, not me,” he replied with his blood in his eyes As she dragged him right back to the bed “Now you’re safe,” she intoned as she chewed at his bones And he sank like a stone in a pond At the bottom, he drank, and he gave her his thanks And he sang her a sweet little song

What’s to make of you and me? What’s the point of coming clean? I’m afraid of everything, And you will always be hungry

I just stumbled upon this and whoa....I had no idea a mandolin song could be so rebellious punk. Great lyrics and great vibe overall- existential searching from such a simple context. Great song!!

I love that i never really know where you will go next! The skill to create this is amazing, you pull so much together and make it all link up both lyrically and musically. Intelligent blur. Top song

Extremely kind words. Thank you for listening 🙏

I love the melody, so catchy! And your lyricism is amazing

The vocal performance is very impressive! I love the slightly disjointed intro! The chorus is really catchy. The sound mix is perfect. It's very cool, I really liked it!

@fantex

Killer riff and mandolin playing.

Okay, yeah, so ... I don't know what instrument that fuzz is on but it's such a brilliant texture underneath all of those rocking plucked things which them selves add so much damned attack and aggression to this I wonder why mandolin isn't the principle instrument of rock music. Also - brilliant melody, love your swoops up to high register. And a grand story, well told, with just a touch innuendo to keep it spicy. Loved it!

Thank you! It's just mandocello, mandolin, vox and drums on this track. There's a few vox tracks for the FX, but just one track for each mando, so the fuzz you're hearing is probably the mandocello. But they're each just compressed and saturated, not running any amps or models or pedals. You and me both, tho - a mandolin is basically a snare drum that can make chords, rock musicians are missing out.

Whoa dude. You have 100% changed my entire perception of what these kinds of instruments can be used for. This is awesome! And the vocals...so great!

I'm thrilled with this feedback. I highly recommend Punch Brothers if you want more rockgrass - particularly "Who's Feeling Young Now"

I would pay money for this song, this is so awesome. The way the main riff just rolllls is along . Your vocals and lyrics are the cherry on top. Amazing as always

The way you sing "his head" immediately, I was hooked! Oh my god... Also agreed sounds... dangerous. The reverb throws, here are there, are such a treat to my ears

@mhol

That riff, I love that, and your vocal approach to the verses, great

I love how you jump right into this one. The riff is killer, as is your vocal. Ooh...it's great how you pause before "hungry." Great tune..dark :)
