Side B, Sunrise

Liner Notes

I had the chords for this song for a while. At one point it was going to be part of a more ambitious song. But one day I was strumming this chord progression and thought of two of my characters that are recurring in my songs this year and set the song in the morning after they physically meet each other again later in life and pick up where they should have never left off.

While recording this I realized that I can't continue to take the same approach I did with my first two FAWM songs with production or I'd never reach my goals. So I tried to do this one relatively quickly. Mostly succeeded as I can measure this one in hours not days.

Lyrics

Woke up early, made a cup of tea All I wanted in this world is right there next to me Dressed in layers, still freezing cold First light in the distance beginning to unfold Set it on the table, volume set real low Past meets present tense in our own revival show

Did you see me coming? Ever feel this way? You said it was like some other life and you woke up today I don’t want to take away from you, just add highlights A few new chapters I hope you’ll help me write Sometimes it feels so simple, sometimes it is What I want in this world is just some more of this

It's odd how you get so conditioned to a chord pattern. I was ready to hear Hotel California until I wasn't. Cool song!

I'm really digging your merger of your fiction work with your songwriting. It reminds me that it would be good to get out of one's own bubble and write some story songs about other people, I suppose like Bruce does, and so many others. I can hear why you were considering an ambitious arrangement with this chord progression, it's very pretty and captivating. That's something you could do down the road with this, but for now the guitar and lyrics carry the story quite beautifully, I love the title and how it relates to the premise. Its a perfect blend of clear storytelling and any subtle mysteries that live between the lines.

I like the simplicity and stripped down sound here. Right away I thought of mid 60s British ballads from Animals or Stones. Heartfelt lyrics and great sentiment without being trite. Great song Todd!
