Half Plastic

Liner Notes
This song is inspired by the whiplash of all the scientific studies, between really alarmist messaging about plastics, to sometimes those studies getting discredited or disproven
For instance, there was this bit about having a whole spoon in your brain: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/the-human-brain-may-contain-as-much-as-a-spoons-worth-of-microplastics-new-research-suggests-180985995/ (How does it all get in there? I thought maybe the same way people eat eight spiders per year in their sleep. Which, by the way, is completely made up: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-people-swallow-8-spiders-a-year-while-they-sleep1/ ...and then per this article, accumulation of plastic in the body might not be so much, because those earlier studies were measuring compounds that occur naturally: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jan/13/microplastics-human-body-doubt See also, the black spatula controversy: https://nymag.com/strategist/article/the-truth-about-black-plastic-spatulas.html
Lyrics
I’ve become bionic by accident I incorporate what I ingest like horny rhino poachers You’ve got your eight spiders a year But somebody’s got to bump the average When it comes to pen caps in my sleep When you open up the lid on my frozen custard skull You might just find A prepackaged spoon inside
I’m already half plastic Half ken doll whether left or right or waist up or waist down from all the PFAS and the microbeads I carry all our sins around inside me I’m already half plastic
A year later and still embedded in my brain is a distrust of a black spatula from a single study turned rumor turned meme As if the darker color provided cover for carcinogens galore
Now I’m bombarded with thousands of decisions It’s not like I want a less sterile syringe the doomerism is what’s weighing me down what’s the point of resistance give the lifeboats to the children but it’s too late for me to swim I’ll become an island in the ocean
I’m already half plastic Half ken doll whether left or right or waist up or waist down from all the PFAS and the microbeads I carry all our sins around inside me From the dinosaurs to the ice age I am exhumed history At this point there’s no getting it out I’m already half plastic

we've switched back to wooden utensils and glass storage containers regardless... hopefully it's a good move health-wise. digging the twitchy drums underneath everything here. very catchy, and "I’m already half plastic" is just a killer hook. ♳
Great lyrics, Great work! Congratulations!
I really love how you approached the lyrics and it comes off really well with your melody! The music is really well done! Great work!
Oh man! I worry about this all the time! And now I’m not sure that I have to! Really nice guitar work. I love the emotional build and the cadence of the whole song. The melody is super catchy and a wonderful counterpoint to the underlying chord progression. Nice work!
i've basically stopped paying attention to this kind of writing, i just want to live my life and i think i'll probably be fine. the "i'm already half plastic" line is a great hook and a great title
