Lyrics

THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE

Words & Music By Jerry Pettit Facebook.com/JerryPettitMusic

There are souls who walk through gardens Never stopping for the rose They see the thorns and remember bleeding So they keep their windows closed

Built their castles out of caution Stone by stone and year by year Now the walls are grown so high and thick They can't remember why they're here

CHORUS: Oh, THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE They're not cruel, they're just afraid Of the price that trust has paid My heart goes out to THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE

There's a man who lives on my street Walks alone at evening time Rarely smiles at passing strangers Downturned eyes that never climb.

Past the fortress of politeness To the tender heart below He's been wounded by the arrows So he'll never let them show

CHORUS: Oh, THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE They're not cruel, they're just afraid Of the price that trust has paid My heart goes out to THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE

I knew a girl with eyes like amber Said she'd never need a soul That independence was her virtue That surrender killed you slow

But sometimes when the music played I'd see her sway and look away As if she heard another calling From a place she couldn't stay

CHORUS: Oh, THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE They're not cruel, they're just afraid Of the price that trust has paid My heart goes out to THE ONES WHO NEVER KNOW LOVE

Somehow I keep missing yours and I have to catch up! This is so good! I'm in awe once again!

Great production and layers here! I appreciate the fiddle with the countermelody throughout too. Your vocals really impart the wistfulness and reflective tone of the lyrics

This might be one of your best songs imo. Just a good song. It's all in the lyrics... especially with "the price that trust has paid." And I don't know if it was intentional, but your mic was left on after you finished with your vocals, and I think that works great.

What a kind, sweet, sad song! Love these lines: "Built their castles out of caution, Stone by stone and year by year" That's killer! I enjoyed the listen!

This is a beauty Jerry...I think you may have surpassed your very high bar on this one...it's got it all, lyrically and melodically! 👌

I hear a soul aching for those who don't know what love really is. Nice writing.

A compassionate and thoughtful song. Everyone has a story, don’t they? ❤️

this is a fine example of expressing political views in a subtle way. i hear ir as a response to those who ridiculed bad bunny's performance at the super bowl. but i admit i may be reading something in it that you didnt intend. it works quite well enough as a romantic ballad excellent lyrics and vocals,
