There's Not Many In Tonight
NSFWLiner Notes
I've got a horrible toothache. I powered through to get this done but I'm probably going to fall further behind. Still lots of time to make it up later though.
Not the first time I've done some kind of a sonic manifesto...
The title comes from a song in Toast of London, it is otherwise unrelated.
Lyrics
I’m spike direction This is the spike direction effect Psychobilly adjacent Garage blues From the Medway delta
We struggled to pick one genre And the purists get annoyed But there’s too much different stuff we like So we play with all the toys
Are there any billies here? There’s not many in tonight Even the ones who’ve lost their hair? There’s not many in tonight There’s not many in tonight
A lady called me the fuckaround guy I can’t sing well but I shout alright I can’t play good but I’m still going To make some noise for you tonight
Solo
Are there any garage rockers in the place? There’s not many in tonight Not even the ones with the fur on their face? There’s not many in tonight There’s not many in tonight
Listen to this beat This is the Spike Direction Beat You must all move your feet To the Spike Direction Beat
And we sing Are there any blues men about? There’s not many in tonight They’re all at home with a case of gout There’s not many in tonight etc
Comments
I thoroughly enjoyed that. That listen to this beat bit could be milked to f**k live.
Sounds like most of our gigs, extracting people from their sofa is difficult. Nice rockabilly punky mixture. Punk works bes5 with an English accent.
"I can’t sing well but I shout alright I can’t play good but I’m still going" Cracked me up
I also struggle to pick one genre. Respect!!
Keep on making that noise, Mr Direction Beat.
The spike direction effect always kicks some serious ass. Not many in tonight is a great hook! I love that fuckaround guy line. I'm more of a dickaround guy. I'm getting a little sweat. There's not many in, but we more than make up for our lack of numbers with enthusiasm
Ha ha ha! Why pick one genre when you can have all the genres! This is gritty and cool. I love the fun lyrics and the dirty, punky, lo-fi sounds are great!
Sorry to hear about the toothache! I think you pulled off a great tune anyway. There's a cool groove right out of the gate - that bluesy guitar feel mixed with punky, almost spoken vocal, works really well. The lyrics are fun, too.
Oh I love this! It’s so great to hear the announcing of yourself in a song! I’m here and YOU will listen. Great!
