Let's Swing

Liner Notes
I constantly surprise myself when composing music, in a good way mostly!
I had just finished my Chiptune song from the other day, turned off the laptop and swung around on my chair to my Roland Fantom. My music brain still wanted to play some melodies, so I was just idly knocking out random chords and happened across a melody that forms the start of todays song.
No idea where it came from, "this sounds ok, if not very original" I thought....but nevertheless - as it was about 11pm - I thought I'd quickly use the Fantom to record it, as I couldn't be bothered to turn the laptop on again and I might forget what I came up with by the following day.
That night as I settled in for bed I was laying there thinking about those chords, "what is on your mind" my wife asked, "trumpets" I said ๐ . My wife left it there and turned the light off.
Next day, yesterday, I came back to it and sure enough, trumpets became involved. I've never made a song like this before, but it was good fun to make. I'm calling it "swing", but there might also be a hint of Pink Panther in there too?
Used to make this track: Reaper DAW Native Instruments The Grandeur piano, Rickenbacker Bass, Valves Pro, Glaze & Vintage Drummer BBC SO Trumpets and Cello Stone Voices Ambient Reverb Ozone 11 for mixing

Rain dripped off the tip of my fedora as I lit a cigarette, letting the city whisper its sordid tales through a cloud of smoke. Somewhere deep in the heart of this here city, muted jazz was pulsing amid the clink of glasses, a hazy invitation for the lost and the lonely. I leaned against the graffiti-covered wall by my office, the weight of this case heavy on my shoulders, knowing that trust was as elusive as the dawn, and it was fading just as fast...
Thank you! This feels like you wrote a briefing for me to create a piece of music, the story and the music fit perfectly, except we did it in reverse
Enjoyed that. Just fun to get engulfed in the music. Pure pleasure listening...
sometimes those "classic" progressions hit the best. As a trumpet player myself, they sound like very nice runs to play :) Do you have synth trombone too, or is that french horn? I like the switch to driving rhythm, that's fun too.
I have so many synth instruments I don't know what to do with them! Yes, definitely a trombone and french horn, I use the latter quite a lot. It is such a challenge, as a developing piano player, I have the opportunity to play instruments I have no idea how to actually play and have to play them with a piano keyboard. It's a challenge, although I love it. The 'Valves Pro' virtual instrument I used here is a first for me, and had many options of combos of wind instruments as well as different techniques (articulations). I want to try and do more like this, because it turned out way better than I imagined, but that is FAWM for you ๐
I was thinking Noir but then I saw the Pink Panther comment and that resonated, too. Swanky - yeah, thatโs the word!
This is very swanky! I definitely get a Pink Panther vibe. When those new drums kick in it feels very much like a spy movie. The descending bass line glues it all together perfectly. Well done!
Love the Grandeur piano and other instruments. That bass is so good. Amazing work!
