The Ones Who Are Waiting
Liner Notes
I was supposed to take today off from FAWM. But I was listening and making comments this morning when I heard a song that reminded me of Cocteau Twins. It had double stops in the bass, something Simon Raymonde often used. So I thought it'd be fun to do a Cocteau Twins inspired tune. They're one of my all-time favorite groups. Top 5 for sure. And one of my favorite songs is "Fifty-Fifty Clown." So I set out to see what I could do.
I sped it up a lot. I quickly found a keyboard in Logic that got what I wanted. It's called "Curious Hammers" in Alchemy, Logic's great synth plugin. The verse progression came fast. Then I decided to borrow liberally from the Cocteau's arrangement. I added a guitar on the left to match the keys on the right.
When it came to the lyrics, I got the first two lines of the first verse and knew where to go. "The Rose" finds its way here again. It's such an incredible song and I marvel at its greatness. As I kept working, I felt some of Don Henley's "Heart of the Matter" too.
When the words for the outro came to me, I admit I was overcome with emotion. One of those songwriting moments where I go, "I can't believe I'm getting this." It was channeled.
I spent a lot of time on the production. I'm super happy with how this turned out. #pop #ambient #atmospheric #dreampop #shoegaze #rock #vocals
Lyrics
Verse 1
We are scarred from the constant heartbreak The same words the familiar refrain Finally there is one clear moment It’s not worth it to keep on hoping
Verse 2
But there is so much love to give out Even though we are burned out from doubt Do we try and find love’s sharp razor When the fear keeps us from the danger
Bridge
How long does it take to heal When each time love’s blood is spilled Is it worth the prick we’d feel If we got a love that is real
Outro
Here’s to the ones who are waiting there Here’s to the ones with unanswered prayers Here’s to the ones who feel so alone Trust in the sun to make the rose grow
Comments
Yes the bass is one of my favorite parts. Fortunately Logic has really improved their bass guitar samples so I'm ok using them now. I could play it on a bass, but I don't think I'd achieve the same feel as playing it on the keyboard. Thanks!

I'm impressed you picked up on those details! You have great ears. Thank you very much!
that bass groove in pretty infectious from the start. nice production work overall. it’s so poppy and quite a banger despite not having a “chorus”! 🤯
Man this is a superb track. Really dig the progression in the verses. Love how you've layered the synths and guitar to create a beautiful atmosphere. And yeah those outro lyrics are marvelous. What a nice track to wake up to!
Damn bro this sounds like an absolute banger. Caught me immediately! That open verby snare sound is tasty. Smooth vocals, enjoyed the melodic choices. That outro is masterful. Beautiful song.
Damn dude, that bass line drives this thing so hard. Overall production is spot on and all fits together so well. Nice work!
