Just jazzed about it being Sunday. This began as an instrumental that I'll see if I can post here... https://soundcloud.com/joe-fahey-music/the-jazzy-sunday-blues-1
Lyrics
Coffee rings preaching circles on the page The clock’s got nowhere it needs to be Sunday moves in half-time Even the Devil takes a breath today
Trumpet crying soft like it knows my name Coffee gone cold Dust in a sunbeam Clocks refusing to hurry Church bells mixed with a muted trumpet
Blue light through the blinds Smoke and vinyl, and low brass Feelings that don’t need fixing
Coffee gone cold Dust in a sunbeam Clock refusing to hurry Church bells mixed with a muted trumpet
Got a low brass feeling in my chest Not broken, just bent in a beautiful way
These blues ain’t lonely / they just like to linger Mood swings slow as a brushed, brushed snare It’s a jazzy blues Sunday Let the week fall away from me No hurry, no money
(Interlude I)
Got a low brass feeling in my chest Not broken, just bent in a beautiful way These blues ain’t lonely / they just like to linger Mood swings slow through hours of the a day
I still hear your laugh in the back of the beat Your name drifts by like a half-remembered tune We were young enough to think we had time No bitterness, just a blue note or two
(Interlude II)
Annnnnd... scene!

Hey thank you @toddnorem, wow a 10-day trip to Denver sounds amazing, I hope you guys enjoyed it there. A surprise twist on an instrumental suddenly growing words. It was one of those days when the lyrics tank had run dry, there’s just too much to write about but I was overwhelmed with the way things are. I did come up with the chord progression that fit that Sunday feeling I was going for. I thought I may as well record it just to keep moving forward, and see if I can at least make the guitar tone as good as I could and spent a lot of time with it. I messed around with so many different drum and percussion options but nothing seemed to match the vibe I wanted so I ventured into the electronic drum side. Suddenly I realized that it was a good move, it’s not like you’re trying to duplicate real drums, it’s a whole different landscape and I think I’m going to use it a lot more. As much as it put me in the mood to write some pleasant guitar music in the future it was bugging me to miss an opportunity to write a song with lyrics. Maybe I can post the instrumental version on this page, I’ll se if that’s a possibility.
Wow, last i checked this song was just an instrumental, and your notes said you had nothing left to say? So glad I revisited to hear this classic Joe stream of conscience free form jazzy tune. What a great Sunday vibe. I love the last verse, and especially the lines - I still hear your laugh in the back of the beat Your name drifts by like a half-remembered tune. very cool cat!

I listened to this last night after getting back from a 10-day trip to Denver and was going to comment on it, but was too tired. Loved it as an instrumental…and now I come back to it and it has a melody and lyrics. And wow…what exceptional lyrics! That whole first verse that begins with "Coffee rings preaching circles on the page" and "I still hear your laugh in the back of the beat,” “got a low brass feeling in my chest,” “moon swings slow as a brushed, brushed snare” and so many others. You really capture of the feeling of a late Sunday morning, maybe trying to decide if you should do something or not but just stuck in that moment and savoring it. Your scene is so visual it’s like I’m there. So relatable. I have jazz Sunday just about every Sunday. And it’s all the more impressive having heard the instrumental version of this first, never thinking that it would have lyrics set to it as great as these and work. This is the one to beat for FAWM!
