Wide As The Prairie Skies

Liner Notes
I needed something to get back into "just writing" without overthinking it. So I gave myself an additional challenge and only 30 minutes to just set this #fakeit to whatever comes to mind first. I hate that it shows my old bad habits right away, going for the same simple clichés over and over again ... well I think I need to challenge myself to writing more again without overthinking to get these bad habits (like always starting phrases on the downbeat religiously) out of my system 😀 Thank you metalfoot for creating this challenge! This really is helping me get back into the game!

C D G C D G C D Chorus: It's time to open up my heart G Wide as the prairie skies C D It's time to look at the world G With some brand new eyes C D Too long I've been sitting in the darkness G Em And I've needed light C D It's time to open up my heart G Wide as the prairie skies
Em C
V1: I'm turning off the TV news D G I'm shutting down the mobile phone Em C All this doomscrolling is the death of me D It just makes me feel more alone
V2: I'm stepping out the front door I'm going to breathe some fresh air See the good things happening around me It's time that I learned to care
Chorus: It's time to open up my heart Wide as the prairie skies It's time to look at the world With some brand new eyes Too long I've been sitting in the darkness And I've needed light It's time to open up my heart Wide as the prairie skies
V3: I'm going to walk through nature I'll just enjoy it cuz it's there Appreciate the small things round me Because there's glory everywhere
V4: I'm going to eat some good food I'm going to learn to be healthy And care for others like I should now Find pleasure in simplicity
Chorus
Bridge: Em It might not change the world G But it can change my mind Em And that's the kind of change F That it's awful nice to find
Chorus (repeat to end)

Nicely poetic, and sung with such feeling!
I'm so glad you participated in this challenge. I wasn't aware of anything like this before, so it's really fun to hear the different interpretations. And I love piano, so this is a real bonus.
Loving the piano sound and the cool leaps you took the melody to in the bridge etc
This song feels so different with the Piano accompaniment and i really like it. You were true to the original chord placement, which was a real challenge that you met very well. I love your ending too - very emotive and heartfelt.
Yes, the original chord placement was a real challenge, you are absolutely right! Especially where you want to repeat in the chorus and then it is not exactly a repetition. I really enjoyed trying to match it as best as I could :)
I love setting this challenge because everyone has such a unique way of constructing their own melodies -- I quite enjoy yours! I thought the chorus was especially good. Nicely done. All the best to you in the rest of FAWM.
Thank you so much! And I felt the chorus was still lacking some clarity hehe
I love piano songs and then a video..cool. Great song for a self imposed 30min time frame.
Thanks! I was still struggling to sing through it because it was still so fresh and not really solidified yet.
Pianists unite! I’m loving all the different fakeit interpretations (check out mine lol…we converged on a few things inadvertently!). Ah despite the things you hear and judge yourself for, the devices work! I enjoyed your vocals very much. Nice listen!
