Liner Notes

I saw @kahlo2013's skirmish prompt when it went up and immediately knew I wanted to do it, but I've been running around all day and didn't have a chance to sit down with it until many hours later. Still, I managed to get it done in about an hour. As soon as I finally sat down with it, I had the concept in my head (which wasn't where I assumed I'd go with it when I saw the prompt posted). A little freewriting to get a sense of what I wanted to convey and then the lyrics came together pretty quickly. The music took a little longer.

Anyway, I've been thinking a lot lately about family and legacy and how those things can mean so many things to different people; about how I see my purpose in the world as leaving my corner of it as a gentler place than it was when I arrived; and about how the work I'm doing to heal my own stuff also involves healing the stuff that was passed down from my ancestors, and maybe by doing that healing work I can also extend some of that to them. There's also something about the liminality of living as a queer/trans/nonbinary human in here.

Lyrics

I bridge the gap I'm on the path To heal myself and echo back To those who came and went before I bridge the gap

I stretch between The present moment And the past That I am holding

I bridge the gap I'm on the path To heal myself and echo back To those who came and went before I bridge the gap

I am the bridge I am the threshold The horizon As it unfolds

I bridge the gap I'm on the path To heal myself and echo back To those who came and went before I bridge the gap

And I feel it in my bones The liminal is what I know I exist in in-betweens I am making my own meaning

I bridge the gap I'm on the path To heal myself and echo back To those who came and went before I bridge the gap I'm on the path To heal myself and echo back To those who came and went before I bridge the gap

A catchy melody. I like this!

I love the idea of echoing back to our ancestors and past selves. Catchy and very resonant to me as a fellow queer gap-bridger

Oh very catchcy that bridge the gap line is very good! repeat never gets boring! Another keeper for sure. I would love to hear some production on a song like this - it deserves a bigger audience

Love the repeating "I bridge the gap" (and the section -- chorus? -- it lives in, AND that you put the two versions of the chorus together at the ned). Melody and lyrics in the bridge are also especially great. Nice!

There's a sort of determined confidence in this song, and with the way the lyrics are worded, I can see a lot of people connecting with it.

Myself, I love these lines: "The liminal is what I know I exist in in-betweens I am making my own meaning"

This is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the sentiment and how it could resonate with different people. It flows beautifully and you deliver is lovely, tender, and warm as you sing.

Love this. Those descending triplets in the verses are really lovely and give a musical element to the bridging over gaps/existing in between. I love the sentiment in the chorus. The idea of echoing back is lovely. Catchy, beautiful and healing. A true exvangelical anthem.

Oooh I LOVE the rhythms of the guitar against your lyrics, super satisfying chords and melody, and I absolutely adore the theme of this song. Bravo 👏
