Hey Hey Don't Be Mean
Liner Notes
This #MovieQuote comes from Peter Weller. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The Eighth Dimension (1984) was one of the most entertaining works of cinema to come out of the eighties and I'm prepared to die on that hill.
Superior Drummer 3, Korg M3 Electric piano, and an awful lot of Squier Strat. Is it #pop? Or #prog? I dunno. It was fun to make, though.
Lyrics
Not everybody shares your point of view Not everybody thinks the same Don't think you're better just because you do You've still got room to raise your game
Even now, it's not absurd To live your life by these three words
Don't be mean; ignore the flakes Don't be mean; them's just the breaks Don't be mean; for goodness' sakes Don't be mean; that's all it takes
Hey, hey now. Don't be mean. You don't have to be mean. 'cause remember: No matter where you go, there you are.
If you think kindness is some sort of scam Good Doctor Banzai said it best I'll live my life as if it's an exam And being mean won't pass that test

Lovely atmospheric tune and I'm digging the movie education I'm getting. Killer chorus! I've been mulling over watching this movie for some time now, guess this is my cue.
A very "Stop and Listen!" opening. The rising tones in the pre-chorus accent it well. Otherwise...yeah, good words to elaborate on.
My favorite movie of all time. Just watched again. Brilliant, as is this.
Ooo yeah, love the ambient opening vibes to this. The bass and guitar combo is gorgeous too - feels like its rooted in the 'So' album? Great arrangement, delivery and love the underlying sentiment of 'don't be mean'. It's not hard to be nice, is it :) ?
Really cool 80s vibes here - especially on the bass! Nice catchy chorus and its nice to hear upbeat lyrics in these most challenging of times!
Well that was a hell of a title to play off! thank god we are all different, pity more cant embrace that idea I love that change up very poppy i guess pop proggy! you can hear the fun you had!
I love the 80s vibes. Progpop maybe? It’s a very catchy groove and your guitar work is grabbing me by the ears. I feel like I must seek out the movie!
Great intro! I really enjoyed this and it picks up the 80s groove perfectly
Oh, it's a long time since I've seen that movie. Love the positivity in the lyrics Chris, not to mention the fab production. We need more of this sort of thing!
Impeccably 80s vibes in the intro! Beautifully done across the board - simple direct lyrics, a really solid groove, and of course a very, very pertinent message. Great work on this one!
That movie is cool! The chorus is great! I'm going to listen to this again, then go see if that movie is on to watch!
Great 80s vibe here. The electric piano tone and those vibrato chime chords on the Strat sound lovely, and the groove really carries it. The Buckaroo Banzai quote works perfectly with the lyrics too, simple, direct, and it ties the whole thing together. Really spacious mix overall too.
Wherever you go, there you are.
Love the EP tone and the vibrato chime chords on that Strat are en pointe, the 80's vibe is just oozing out of this song which works well with the quote choice! Love the chorus groove.
This Rawks. The Chorus always it all and the sample drives it home.
Very catchy. I love me some Buckeroo. Great chorus! And great samples!
Love it. Just choosen a random song from youre production this year. Love this prog inspiration thing. What a song. The spoken words... What a great refrain. Reminds me of everything between Bowie and more New Wave stuff. This is gold!
