Liner Notes

Naturally, I arrived quite late to my own skirmish. But I got here and wrote a song. That's a small victory!

This is an #acousticonetake, just me and one of my diatonic #autoharp s. I suspect I'll try singing it in a lower key, but this is where it started.

This is, of course, fictional, since we don't have space explorers out there (yet, anyway). But when we do, there will be a lot of people who dreamed of being there who remain on our lovely planet.

Lyrics

Dreams of Space Deirdre M Murphy

A E B7 E While you grew in my womb, I felt drawn to the stars B7 E Awaking to gaze up and out, though in my dreams I’d roam A E B7 E I dreamed that we were out there, living up on Mars B7 E In a village buried deep, our food grown under a dome

When you were a small child, we gazed up at the sky Naming constellations, counting craters on the moon While I painted pictures, you would always sigh And build another robot, while I hummed some old tune

You grew tall and I grew old; still we shared dreams of space You went to university, and raced the fastest jets I painted stars and spaceships while you made your own place Leading humans to the stars; you left with no regrets

Now I look up through the dark each night, and I think of you So far from home, so far from Earth, making your own way I remember all the nights we dreamed, I wish I could have gone too I can’t blame you for going, though I miss you every day I’m so proud of you for going, though I miss you every day

I like the vocal delivery and music created on really good wording. Enjoyed listening.

What a lovely story! As a sci-fi lover, (just finished reading "The Martian") it really caught my attention. Such a momma's story, too, as we shoot our children off "into space" and we miss them, no matter where they are. Happy FAWMing!

Gut gewählter Titel zum Song, er hat mich gezwungen hier zuzuhören. Sehr schöner Beitrag von dir!

I imagine you singing this in the 22nd century at a soiree of space-going humans who have left behind the plague that is social media run by Billionaires and revived the cozy fireside culture-filled evenings so beloved of the Victorian Middle-Classes, where your hand held autoharp has replaced the too large for a modern dome dwelling upright piano.

Despite it being the 222nd century, this will still resonate, because every mother who will ever live can identify with the idea of her kids leaving the nest.

PS What's the word you taught me for songs that have a Fantasy or Sci-Fi topic? I have forgotten it. Filch? or somethign like that, wasn't it?

Filk Or, you know, #filk.

I love the setting you imagined me in.

I really like the shimmer of those high notes against the jangle of autoharp! It adds to the spacey feel.

Thank you!

This is beautiful. I really like the autoharp I wish I could have one, but they are so expensive in Germany

[pic]

Thank you.

"so expensive" Really? I suppose there aren't a lot of used autoharps over there. If you ever come to the states, maybe you could take one back with you.

Loving your beautiful melody and vocals that deliver the poetic lyrics perfectly. The autoharp gives it a timeless feel.

Thank you.

I'm getting a sense of longing for exploration here, certainly, in both the words and music. I suppose many of us have a bit of that even here on little planet earth.

Oh, a lot of us do, even some of us who are currently hermiting a lot due to covid. But we can still dream!
