I Became Alive Inside Before I Died

#instrumental #jazz Probably my most ambitious effort yet in what's been a very ambitious FAWM for me. I'm extremely pleased with how it came out!! I'm not sure quite how long I spent on it, but I think somewhere around 15 hours, or around double my average so far.

A really fun tune. The title makes me chuckle a little bit contrasted against the jolly upbeat vibe for most of it. I imagine it turning on in the moment someone becomes content with death but there's still a little while to go before it comes. So you just bop your head along to the lounge music for the remainder of your time in life's waiting room.
Hehehe, the whole time I was writing it, I was looking for a way to subvert it. I never set out to make such a jolly tune! But at every step, the jolly & upbeat option was too good to resist. So I resigned myself to writing a more conventional track than I originally wanted to, & told myself while I did so that I would subvert it in the title to have my revenge
Very cool piece I have to say. Glad you went for it. The interplay with the melodies and that arpeggio line is really playful. The guitar on top adds some sorrowful elements to the otherwise happy tune. The break serves to amplify the groove that follows. This is great stuff.
I love this so much. The sounds used in this are so beautiful and pleasant. The first minute is mind blowing. The title reminds of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber.
Oh I love this! I’ve been deep in a mid-century atomic-age lounge phase and this would fit right in. The main synth riff is so fun, and I like the section where it slows does to provide some dynamic contrast. Oooo is that a vibraphone solo?? Super cool, well done!
Ohhhh this is so nice, it has such a smooth and yet toe tapping feel to it. Love the layers that come in and out. I can see why you're pleased with it and I can't wait to see/hear what you come out with next!
"some humble rock & roll music"?
I'm glad to see that you're using this as a chance to branch out in some other genres. It's got a good feel, and I really like the tone on the guitar.
that bit in my bio is more of a flippant statement of general tendency, i'll always write whatever type of music i feel like that i have a sufficient historical understanding of & idiomatic fluency in, as well as pushing into uncharted waters where genre descriptors of any kind are more of a stretch. i've been practicing jazz composition for the past year & i quite enjoy it!
Oo this is great! Had a few surprise twists and turns too. Funny how it just kept wanting to stay upbeat. Songs are bossy sometimes.
