Liner Notes

#rock #desertanimals #americana I have been living in the desert valley north of Phoenix for the past 6 winters, and I am always amazed by the beauty and the danger of the desert plants and animals. I was reminded recently when I accidentally backed into a prickly pear in my yard whilst taking out the garbage. Ouch. This one was supposed to be a rocker, with my dusty old electric. It was a bit distorted on recording, but I did my best. really wish I could add drums and bass. Also features a solo from a Coyote at the end. Don't be alarmed. No animals or people were harmed in the recording of this track. 😀

Lyrics

Everything that grows here, can cut you and hurt you Everything that prowls outside, can bite you and take your life That’s living in the desert

The weather in the desert can bake you or be freezing It will turn you around with changes in the seasons, and then send you out of town

Refrain life in the desert it aint easy to survive thriving in the desert you find a way to stay alive

Snakes and lizards Havalina Herd cactus and the ocotillo bobcats for sure are living in the Desert

People say in the Desert You don’t remember your name living in the desert is a dangerous game

Your songs about the Southwest are always a treat, especially to those of us in the chilly, upper Midwest, surrounded by ICE. Every bit of your opening verse rings true, even the desert plants can hurt you, not to mention the variety of life-threatening critters you mention, and don’t forget the extreme shifts in temps. I lived in Colorado as a kid and will forever miss it but It’s true that living in the desert is a dangerous game.

I have never been to a desert. The closest I've come is the Black Hills in SD. Although, I have heard a cayote while out deer hunting so there is that. My former boss used to hunt Javelina with bow & arrow and has bagged a few. The song has so many ways to cause you harm, with snakes, lizards, freezing and such, doesn't sound like the vacation spot I'd be looking to enjoy. The song, however I did enjoy. Your echo vocals do the song just right. Nicely done!

This brings me back to my brief experiment with living in the desert when I called Vegas home for a year. Scorpions were a big deal. The weather is no joke. I got lost hiking once in the red rocks as the sun was going down. No cell service. And no shelter to speak of, not even a tree, just seemingly endless mountains of smooth rock with steep cliffs. Was really scary thinking of having to spend the night there. Saw the parking lot lights mere seconds before the starless night went black. Cool that you captured what it’s like to live out in what often seems like inhospitable land. Was just in Denver and got reacquainted with the reality of rattlesnakes!

I like how the echo/reverb added to the sense of menace.
