Liner Notes

Had a slow week, but glad to get this one finished. Not a lot to say about it tbf. I think I've stolen melodies from myself..

Lyrics

the moon landing was faked and I’m siding with Drake who are you to tell me different

play the glockenspiel its the only thing that’s real who are you? and who am I?

keep to the middle or get cut

someone’s at the door selling me a door but alas, it’s not worth it

I can’t tell the time and i am colourblind but, god damn, I am perfect

keep to the middle or get cut yeah you're gonna get cut gonna get fucked up!

so, to summarise this is a lullaby for the enraged the disengaged I’m beginning to tire balanced on a wire between your house and mine and mine

Love the jaunty intro, then the sleepy vocals require a bit of brain recalibration - bold choice, and we love a bold choice, don't we? I think we do? I really like the switch into more straightforward vocals on the chorus, the layers and harmonies are lush. I'm getting a bit of a SFA circa-Juxtaposed-With-U vibe from the tropical instrumentation which is always welcome. And then on that "yeah" in the middle you very briefly sound like Julian Casablancas and I'm not sure what to do with that feeling.

Excellent arrangement and strong lyrics. Love the door line. Nice treatment on the croony verse vocals: a bit Franz Ferdinand? (Or some other band no one will cut you for liking.)

The rhythm here with the playful keys have a jumpy, almost Latin feel for me, while the vocals are more resigned and lower in the mix. And I guess resigned is exactly what the lyrics are: I may not be conventional, but I'm here to stay so get out of my way!

I love the rhythm to this. I think you could've easily turned it into a banger, but I really enjoy the mid-tempo laid back pace. The chords are nice and sunny and the dusting of guitar flourishes and little give my ears something to get stuck into. The door-to-door door salesman is a Bill Bailey joke but I'll let you off 😉 I love how dramatic the ending is given how relaxed the rest of the song was

ooooh I like that vocal treatment. Those big chunky preset-y synth keys that only play two chords? sounding very TLB... you'll be hearing from my lawyers. Of course then you break with the TLB formula by having a different, second part of the song, I love the darker fuzzier feel of "the keep to the middle section". Bassline is great throughout this, really groovy. You might not appreciate the comparison because of the Win Butler of it all, but this reminds me a bit of Here Comes The Night Time. Yes that's right, two comparisons in one comment, what am I, adforperu? Anyway this is pretty great

See, you can’t plagiarise yourself. This is very handy when writing genre fiction.

Oooo that might be a fun challenge: Plagiarise Yourself.

See this bit here at 1:20 - that's trademark Follet: you thought it was this, but really it's this other thing. Lovely.

Ha, love stealing (I prefer 'borrowing') my own melodies... If you have a decent cupboard of ingredients, no use going out and buying more to cook with!

You're definitely channeling some funky vibes thus far this year, and I'm here for it.

This is such a cool sound mash, like the whole thing is built on just those two chords but it doesn’t feel boring at any point, you just sort of vibesing in that very zeitgeisty way, and it rocks. The pshhh at the end is really fun as well.

This is an enjoyable, jaunty bounce to it that I'm totally all in on and is full of nice little production touches especially the switch from buried to in your face vocals.

"the moon landing was fake and I side with drake" is a helllluva bar to start with, what a weirdly relatable feeling. Incredible lyrics here and I really really like the title/theme, it's such a striking metaphor and it fits so well. You may have stolen the melody from yourself but I don't care, I love it. Love the transitions into the chorus toooo, that build is so earned the second time

What I like most about this song is that it has a real Sheffield sound to it. It's got loads of Jarvis and Hawley and Arctics jostling in there, and your voice is quite Longpigs-esque. What joyous sarcasm is this cold, wet city imparting into its songwriters? (Not that it's doing it to me, but it's definitely doing it to you!)

you are allowed to! especially when they are that good! Love the bounce to this sitting left field to that great vocal! educational too - now i know why i cant tell the time - surely you wouldnt fib

The Get the Zest rhythm is so satisfying! Such an existential bop and the harmony at the end is wonderful.

Sigh, here I go again listening to you and just thinking "I'll get my coat". Listening to this the thing I really admire most is how all the instruments fit so well, that driving bass fits so perfectly with the piano and the drums driving it along but not interfering. Really like you lazy singing delivery, got a bit of Artic Monkeys vibe from the vocal delivery.

Nicely done.

That line..."I am perfect".... Laugh Out Fucking Loud The lyrics are great and i dig your vocals here. You should use that style to do those 1940s style standards. Effects and all.

@beej

I have read the lyrics only as I am at work... but have just had a good chuckle! Excited to hear the song later

That feeling when you’re listening to adforperu and zone out and forget it’s a FAWM and not the radio.

the desire to maintain extreme positions while giving the appearance of occupying the middle ground must be one of the most prevalent social diseases of the current age.
