04. Meet Me Halfway
Liner Notes
When my partner and I knew each other in high school, way before we were together, "we" would walk to each others places all the time. We kind of, sort of, lived on the same road, though it was like a ten minute drive (it was like an hour and a half walk) and at one point the name of said road changed. You never turned. Never had to put a signal on. This is the technicality we live and breathe by to this day just so we can say we "grew up down the street" from one another.
I lived further out of town and never really endeavored to get my drivers license, so I would walk everywhere, and often that "where" was her place. There were three times that she came to my place: one was by bike and the chain came off halfway. So she just walked the bike for 45 minutes. The other two times she said "meet me halfway".
Both times we met near a lumber business and I thought nothing of it. I mean, it was a little closer to her place, but I walked a lot so I never thought anything of it. Flashforward to a few years later, when we're actually a couple, and she confessed to me that she would wait like 30 minutes before starting her walk and it was really like 25% of the way. I thought it was pretty funny.
In the non-literal sense, I feel like I was the opposite in our relationship. I mean, teenage guys are....well...you know...so while I had her as a best friend, it took me some time to actually realize that the things that I value (trust, honest, integrity, humor, creativity, etc.) were all things she had in spades.
It sounds cliché, but I am the doofus in the rom-com who doesn't see that the thing he is looking for is right in front of him. So this is, once again, for her.
I had a jambe gifted to me from a coworker, so it's buried in here under more Mixcraft drum loops that I ended up using. I personally think the bridge needs more layers, but I like the length of it because it's the halfway point and...symbolism or whatever. Maybe I'll add to it. Likely not. Enjoy!
Lyrics
Verse 1: I know I told you To meet me halfway, honey, But it feels just like I Took some time to start.
It's kinda funny, It's like we both were running From the very things that Made us who we are.
Down by the river, That long stretch of highway, I'd hear the hollow buzz of Cicadas in the air.
I'd daydream Of getting the hell out of here While faulty powerlines Crackled overhead.
Chorus 1: The more I live, The less I know, But the girl who lives on Down the road Is waiting for me.
She was always home, It just took my Late little heart Time to go there.
So meet me halfway.
Verse 2: Now that I found you I'll go the whole damn distance. There is a push and pull That keeps me on the ground,
And moving forward Like you're my gravity, baby; You're the electric hum That follows me around.
Chorus 2: The more I live, The less I know, But the girl who lives on Down the road Is waiting for me.
She was always home, It just took my Late little heart Time to go there.
The more I lose, The less I need, When the pretty girl on Down the street Is what I dream of.
She is everything I want And I'm not Gonna let go So easy.
So meet me halfway.
Bridge: Repeat myself, Nobody knows, They never notice I don't Stop crawling.
Fall down, Sky above, On my knees again.
Pick myself up Off the floor, I don't feel it no more. I'm running
Back to all That I love, And all I love Is you.
x2
Repeat ourselves, Nobody knows, They never notice we don't Stop crawling.
Fall right down, Sky above, On our knees again.
Pick ourselves up Off the floor, We don't feel it no more, We're running
Back to all That we love, and all we know is true.
x2
The more I live, The less I know, But I know you're right there Down the road Waiting for me.
You were always home, It just took my Late little heart Time to go there.
So meet me halfway.

Nice storytelling. As someone who married their childhood love I can recommend it. At least she has not killed me yet.
What impeccable production, but more important, what an impeccable song, so warm and tender and inviting, melodic and tuneful and fun while still evoking a hazy feeling of nostalgia. It's all so appealing and delightful!
the bass switch up at 2:00 is really smooth and a nice transition! 𝄢
So sweet!! The double tracked vocals are so satisfying to listen to. I love that bass in the bridge & the layers are so good!!! It feels like running, perfect. I really enjoy reading your liner notes with each song, thank you for sharing a look into your life!
Oooo this is cool. I love your rhythmic verse.. and the vocals are chefs kiss! The chorus is reminiscent of the Barenaked Ladies. The outtro rhythms are great. Love the story. Well done.
Thanks for sharing the story of your journey down the street together. Very cool track! So much to like here, the bass and your harmonies are wonderful too.
