Ostriching - Dachō!
by @elainedimasi · @datsch
Liner Notes
Elaine says:
I am grateful to Datsch, whose idea this all was, to the intrepid YouTube ostrich audio uploaders, and to Ishioka Ostrich Farm, Niseko Yerzhomartova Ayazhan, and Habiro Agricultural Park Miharashi Farm Ostrich Ranch for existing.
Datsch says: Wow! I was trying a Haku. style J-pop/rock track and Elaine has elevated it with her expert struthiology (study of ostriches) and top-tier Japanese pronunciation, all while wrangling my wayward guitars into a smooth production. Now were just need someone to make a viral Ostrich Dance video …

That’s us, no box left unchecked …
amen, sister… the world needs more “fuck it, let’s just go look at ostriches” songs. somehow the fact that it’s ostriches and not, like, pangolins or capybaras makes all the difference. i just came off a string of listening to heavier songs, so thanks for the reality check! 😅
Thanks, Burr! I am really enjoying these sub-comments, great job! Oh, and ‘foundations’ and ‘steel frame’ (that’s me keeping it constructive)
i laughed instantly....good fun.but more. with that german synth/goth harmonies . ace....
I'm not too familiar with J-pop, but this song has made me want to check it out. It's a happy tune with even more joyful vocals. This has got me thinking of summer, which is more than welcome considering that with the windchill it feels like it's 6 degrees where I am. Also, fantastic use of sound effects on this song.
Thanks! Yes, summer soon please! You might try the band Haku and their album Bokura Janakya Dame ni Natte.
This is such a fun song idea! I love all the ostrich samples throughout, and the little guitar solo at the end is great!
I never heard of the Ishioka Ostrich Farm but I do now! I almost moved to Japan for a year. I didn't know the name for ostrich in Japanese but now I do! だちょう ! The tune is so fun...doomscrolling! Ha! Unique with a great beat! Love the funny noises at the end. This is a win-win write and performance. Kudos!! This is great!!
What a bop! So delightfully quirky, and who knew that visiting an ostrich farm would be such a perfect antidote for “Dopamine Junkie” (our song featuring doomscrolling and smartphone addiction…)
Oh, this is so funny! Deep respect for singing in Japanese! And so fadt! All those instruments and noises! I can imagine some Ostrich dancing!
Amazingly creative--surfer rock x psychedelic x Japanese agribusiness what a combo. Loving all the production and the incredible energy all over this. Great work!
Zaniness all around, from the non-Cartesian geometry of @datsch's arrangement to those luscious multi-tracked vocals to the ostriches themselves pulling their heads up out of the sand for just long enough to comment on the proceedings. A good smile before bed never hurt anybody.
The intro was very ostrich farmy, as I imagine. Love the harmony. I love the quirky arrangement. This may the most fun I've had all day.
Educational, head-bopping, ostrich samples - unexpectedly checking all the boxes! I enjoyed everything about this song. Thank you both for bringing it to us!
