First Fruits like Froot Loops

by @bethyrose

Liner Notes

A #firstfruits song for the first song of FAWM! Got me thinking about what a life of service and thanks looks like for myself as a parent, when love often looks a lot like serving up breakfast cereal and heading out to play in the snow. So here's a little ditty about how first fruits are like Froot Loops :) #girlwithguitar

Lyrics

First Fruits Can look like Froot Loops Getting kids fed With their daily bread Making toast And dark roast This is how I serve

First Fruits Looks like ice cream scoops Treats and games Limit the calling names I'd rather sleep But these are promises I keep This is how I serve

And it's the life I live To give give give Knowing You're enough Love overflows my cup

First Fruits Looks like coats and boots Into the cold Even when I'm not bold Go on out Sled and shout This is how I serve

First Fruits Is "I love yous" Listening ears When it feels like years Every day Find time to pray This is how I serve

And it's the life I live To give give give Knowing You're enough Love overflows my cup And it's the life I live To give give give Knowing You're enough Love overflows my cup Love overflows my cup

This is a lovely & poetic reflection on parenting! I like the structural repetition of the third line of the second, third, & fourth "First Fruits" verses - "Limit the calling names", "Even when I'm not bold", "When it feels like years", serving as a negative contrast to the previous positive two lines, underscoring the sacrifice necessary to facilitate the good time. Well-written!

What a beautiful tribute to the vocation of parenting and how God's grace is enough!

I love the reminder that offerings don't have to be austere, solemn or huge. It's the joy in which it's given, the spirit of the offering.
