Break The Ice

Liner Notes
I wrote this last night after having a VERY low inspiration day. I decided I hadn't made enough noise, so I pulled a speaker cab into my studio to hook up my @dragondreams Hudsonics amp. I cranked it up and had something interesting in a few minutes. The main part turned out to be 11/8 and transitioned somehow into 4/4 for the rest. I definitely didn’t plan on writing something in an odd time - I just play what feels good. I recorded the guitar part straight through last night to make sure I remembered it and then officially recorded everything today.
I had dialed up a cold, intimidating, aggressive icy guitar tone. The tone said it all and I played accordingly.
Eff ICE.

Such good guitar tones on here, damn...you're making me really wish my studio wasn't right above my kids' rooms so I could really crank it up like this. Then I'd have to come up with a riff as good as this though!
Such a hot ice! That is a killer riff and everything is connected together so tightly, great!
This is the part of the movie where the main character is kicking ass / think rocky going up those stairs kind of epic
This is stunning! I love everything about this track. That riff is so damn crunchy! A fantastic way to open my listening for the evening. You really got that T'Watt dialled in perfectly for this track!
Two watts of pure joy! :)
Eff ICE indeed, as others have mentioned, this does feel like a musical protest in and of itself! Fantastic!
Wow! Now THAT is some impressive guitar. Great job--and GREAT TONE!! ❤️
What a bop! Love the guitar sound on this one. :)
That guitar tone is fantastic. This feels like the bestest of garage jams.
This is an interesting fresh track. I noticed that something is (positively) odd about the riff, and I appreciate that you just let it be odd and continue. The amp tone is also good for this Very indie rock like. I did not know @dragondreams builds his own amps :O You continue to amaze me!
Yeah! The 11/8 riffing brings a nice swirly swaying and then releasing into 4/4 is just grand! I love it
Well you succeeded in making noise and good noise ta boot! Great drums and a lovely bristly guitar. I was thinking heavy Styx or maybe Rush influences - very good listen mate
Absolutely fantastic! Spikey guitars, crunchy rhythms, rolling bass perfection. RAWK!
The way those drums roll in...off to the races! That chunky verse groove is nice. Love the build in intensity into the ripping chorus! This kicks ass!
This is a searing cut...love the metrical changes and the way the drums and bass drive...guitar tones are killin'. Lovin' this one!!!!!
Feels like the instrumental equivalent to a screaming chant at a protest. The guitars really do it for me here. Awesome.
Damn! He comes out swinging!
Shoot……. I can’t place it, but that opening was close to one of my favorite late 70’s semi-obscure geek bands…….and I was the only one in high school that listened to it…… thanks for that lonely (……and great…..) memory 😂
It is kinda similar(ish) to the opening chord from Hemispheres by Rush (which I love), in that it has a ton of open notes along with the power chord. But it isn't the same chord and I hadn't thought of it until now! :)
Yes!!!
Yeah... I was that guy too. My rock band in high school played Rush and Yes and King Crimson and Genesis... in a basement with no one else caring. We didn't have a singer, though. I bet THAT was the problem, not the weird music. ;)
This kicks ass. Sometimes, turning up the volume can break the ice 🎶
Love the 11/8. Gonna have to try that. Liberating to play that loud and get it out. Rock on, brother.
Ooooh yeah that guitar tone is perfect. Cool groove to this too
Shattering!!! Fantabulous opening!
They'll never know what hit 'em. Bringing a flamethrower to an ICE rink.
This wins.
This is some nice rockin! Really bright tones but quite aggressive which is a nice contrast. I kind hear some 80s hair metal vocals, Def leopard or motley crue in my head.
