Liner Notes

There was a Corolla that got left in the parking garage near me. The tow truck couldn't get clearance, so they eventually had to jack it onto rollers. It was sitting there for eighteen months.

It's sad but it happens - sometimes people leave, and they have absolutely no one to clean up after them. And sometimes people see an opportunity in that. Most times, of course, it's not as freeing as I'm making it out to be.

This song is about everyone thinking you're dead.

"She's got an old face on a milk carton" had been in my back pocket in the form "I've got a buddy on the milk cartons nationwide" for 2.5 years, but it wasn't the start of the song -- I just needed a fifth verse.

Blatantly inspired by: "Texas Funeral", Hop Along.

Lyrics

What a day to be running late Saved by my friends at the New York subway Across the river Beckons the end of days Into its gaping maw (Haven't I seen you before)

Take every un- Familiar hand You never understand by touching Pull yourself Into a new skin Leave your car behind (This family doesn't love a quitter)

Out in Connecticut, A missing persons case Boxed up for the last decade How strange to Contain dead men Instead of inner children (I am everyone I have ever been)

She should have had a sister, She could have used some better friends

But she is never going back again She is never going back again She is never going back again She is never going Back again Back to the usual

Wanting is bleeding And blood is a lubricant Even you remember this How treacherous A body is When the room fills with smoke She glows phosphorescent

She's got an old face On a milk carton A car that can't be towed From the parking garage No one comes for the leftovers

How ridiculous is it To expect old wounds to mend? Everybody arrives in the end

[Ch] [Ch] Goodbye

What an inspiration, that's heavy.

"Boxed up for the last decade How strange to Contain dead men Instead of inner children"

Wow. I had to pause and think about that verse. Your lyrics are incredible. I'm glad I found your work, this was a good, sad time.

Fantastic idea for a song, and you really did it justice. Right from the start there are more lines I love than I can even quote here: "Across the river / Beckons the end of days", "Pull yourself / Into a new skin", "How strange to / Contain dead men / Instead of inner children"... okay no, I have to stop or I'll just be quoting the whole thing. This lyric is genius.

Ah yes I always like songs inspired by the seemingly benign things we see, there's this car parked by the nearby train station where I live that has been there for months maybe I should turn that into a song. It's tragic but it makes for the kind of biting lyrics that stick with you.
