Awake?
Liner Notes
I wrote a different song yesterday but I'm not really happy with it, so I'm gonna put a bit more work into it. In the meantime, I thought I'd do a quick one to get off the mark.
I bought A Pocket Full of Songs by Nathan Timothy a while ago (basically a blank notebook with songwriting prompts on every other page). I opened it at a random page and it said, "Write a song about dreaming." So I did.
I think I could probably do a better job with both the lyrics and the vocal on this (if I ever come back to it(which I probably won't)).
Lyrics
lately i've found it hard to tell the difference between ourselves waking life feels like a dream 21st century lucidity
i walk this world rehearse my epilogue plan my escape from this hazy fog a half-forgotten narrative enumeration of the things we did
i'm beginning to doubt the subsistence of my somnambulant existence what happens when you can't tell real from fake? or when you're asleep? or when you're awake? when you're awake? when you're awake? when you're awake?

This has quite the polished doo-wop arrangement. The organ really adds a lot to the arpeggiating guitars.
That notebook sounds very intriguing! I’m a sucker for 50’s prom-type tunes. The mellow bass (or is it a low guitar?) figure is gorgeous. Love the synth and those soaring held notes!
The guitars sound beautiful so crisp and lovely. Very cool tune as well with lots of cool things the synth is maybe my favorite thing I’ve heard so far this month.
Great voice! So clear and easy. Absolutely floats through that melody. Nicely done.
This is great. It's got a great feel and while I hear the '50s influence it feels more Elvis Costello to me (who, of course, has been influenced by everything...) This song lands really well and doesn't get stuck in any particular timeframe, it sounds great today.
That picking pattern is so fun, did not expect the change-up on the last chord change and it gives the whole song a unique feel. Love the way the synth comes in and drags the song into a different decade, really fun production and arrangement.
Great dreamy track, love the guitar arpeggios! Love the goofy synth and the guitar with this scheme of Question/Answers!
First 3/4 (or 6/8? 🤔) track I've come across this year. Love those electric guitar arpeggios that underpin the track. That buzzy synth is very cool too and works nicely with the contrasting electric guitar. Nicely off the mark here!
Dan does DOO WOP. The synth solo is a nice touch, and your vocals are killer as always. Great one to kick off with.
Ah that's a cracking slice of slow rock lullabye to wake up** to. Love the rolling guitar and that little descending figure at the end absolutely makes it. Adding in the organ (farfisa?) brings a great 50/60s texture too. Love the lyrics, don't think you need to add anything. It's a lovely song.
**or did I???
Really nice, especially like that synth work coming in midway through. That reverby fingerpicked guitar sounds so nice too, lovely and springy. Really like the repeated when your awake’s to end things
Love the lyrics and the tempo lulling me into that liminal space between dream time and waking. Your vocal tone is so good. Great song!
In my attempt to willfully misinterpret what you were going for, is this your answer to "Everybody Hurts"? But seriously this would be a great soundtrack to the end of a party that started with milkshakes at the drive-thru, a bit of crawling the strip and then leaving the bop after too much non-alcoholic punch. Even more seriously, I like your synth work and this is a very tight and clean production.
Cool, does have a Retro feel. Nice Guitar tone. Wasn't expecting the weird but interesting synth when it comes in but I like how you had it in the background later. Lucidity.... Nice!
Immediate great guitar tone. I admire that you've added several instruments to your production when many II think, treat FAWM as a speed writing exercise (myself included), consequently presenting a single instrument and vocal.. kudos.
