Lyrics
I want to tell her I love her As I stare into her pale, blue eyes I am living my life as a coward I sit silent as she starts to cry
I know I don't have to convince her I can tell she knows that it is true She still says she doesn't need to hear it But the tears in her eyes betray the blue
I'm a coward Living afraid I'm a coward Because of what I can't say
She already knows that I love her But the tears in her eyes betray the blue
I can't explain the way I'm feeling I bottle up the hurt until I bleed I am living life as a coward Not giving my true love what she needs
I'm a coward Living afraid I'm a coward Because of what I can't say
She already knows that I love her But the tears in her eyes betray the blue
I'm a coward Living afraid I'm a coward Because of what I can't say
She already knows that I love her But the tears in her eyes betray the blue Now the tears inher eyes betray the blue

Can’t help but rock back and forth listening to this. There’s an honest vulnerability in the lyric that is touching. Good vocal that conveys the sentiment. Great production with such a catchy vibe going on! Well put together!
Would not have guessed what this song was about from the title alone! The chord progression is perfect for this tune and I really enjoyed the guitar fills throughout.
This is lovely. Really impressed with the full production and intertwining guitar lines behind the vocals.
helllll yeah. Your first song on FAWM was a feel good welcoming/loving anthem, now this is the one we’re all belting out in the pub as things are getting a little rowdier. Once again, I want to hear this with a ton of voices belting this one out. Like if the last chorus just had a crowd of backup singers, it would sound epic. Nice!!
Nice to open up the website and find this tune. I'm also a coward for the things I can't say but I'm working on it. Love the hook follow up on the guitar.
this is a fine pop-rock song, energetically sung and played, and it all flows very well. It reminds me slightly of early Neil Young and Crazy Horse, especially the way you juggle the I IV and V chords in there, with the guitar riffs. Nice one! Would be fine on an album!
i really like your use of rhythm and vocal here - maybe shades of Green Day? Really cool
I love the swung groove on this! You have a knack for catchy melodies. This is rocker and I'm bopping along
Great vocal over wonderful lyrics! Very, very nice song! ❤️
Great lyrics... And I love your production work! That bass and that guitar both sound great in the mix! Everything sounds wonderful! Very nice.
Cheers phoebe! The lead guitar has a Pavement quality so 10 extra points. The guitar tracks in general are so crisp and the 6/8 bouncy feel adds a mystical quality fitting for the lyrical content. Most excellent my dude!
whoa this ROCKS!! That guitar riff is fantastic, and the production is fantastic! Love the story you're telling... so much to love about this!
betray the blue is a cool as heck lyrical hook. Beautifully done. More songs should be in 6/8 - I wasn't expecting it, but it really works (and now I get why you were talking about 6/8 drums in the Slack!) I hope you're super pleased with this one, it's turned out lovely.
I gotta tell ya, from the title alone I was gearing up for a song trashing the police, but then it turned out to be a really lovely love song and kind of sad and beautiful and really well put together Good job
Fucking beautiful, my friend :) Musically and lyrically excellent :D
Dude this is GREAT. I know you said you were getting annoyed with recording this but it sounds fantastic. The acoustics sound great and everything sits perfectly in the mix. Also that melody is gonna be stuck in my head now.
I love the rock and roll of this. It's so sad but the guitars are so grungy and wonderful. The drums are killer. Nice work TC!
Ah such sadness in the lyrics! Really powerful though, great song!
Oh!!! I know what the rift is reminding me of lol, Norwegian Wood, that's the Beatles vibe I bet lol 😂
Of note, the drums used here are really great, they add feeling, bounciness but not distraction. Love it!
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I actually changed up that riff to make it less woodsy but it’s still close.
Opening riff into the verse is so Beatles then it goes nice and country. Really like this 💚
Oh dang that’s sad. You bummed me out TC. Good work xx
This really grew on me by the final chorus . Good melody and nice production .
Great production, a real rocker with the full band sound. The theme seems is consistent and has a vulnerable feel why'll retaining the rock vibes. I do like the theme, at least i think it's focused on not being able to tell the one you love those words. This song as a whole seems the polar opposite of that huge song extreme more than words.
I do like the title hook here, sets up with the second line where we get the image the woman in the story has blue yes, which i like that line (some might find it cliche maybe) but it obviously is necessary for the hook to hit.
The song leaves me with a few questions, mainly the nature of the relationship and how long it is has been going on. Obviously ift his is the second date takes on a completely different feel, the same if they have been together for 25 years. So it's pretty clear the relationship is in "that stage" (whatever it may be called) but I still do wonder. Maybe it's because the narrator here is so self aware and wants to label himself a coward.
Fun song, love the full band sound.
