Duads

Liner Notes

I made this for the ABCDEFG challenge. But I noticed that when I removed the chords, I almost had only two melodic lines. So I limited myself and went for the #2x4 challenge too! Which is interesting because chords are triads, which have now become duads. It's not strictly 2x4, but close enough for me to count. I tried to make the melody only use notes from the 'active' chord, so the chords are maximally expressed within the restraints of 2 voices. In any case, 'twas a fun challenge and I think the restrictions made for a cute little piece. And I also managed to do this with a mixed time signature.

Lovely almost classical or chamber music feel to this piece. It sounds simultaneously modern and ancient at the same time - in a good way!! 😀

yeah, i love how you were — sounds like — mid-process before you realized you could knock out two challenges in one. and also a new “take” the challenge, meaning that there are more than 2 melodic voices but only 2 “active” at one time? that’s cool.

and of course, by just listening to it you’d never guess that’s where this started from. all the "modal exchange" (is that the right term) from moving around to squeeze in all the ABCDEFG’s mixed with the odd time signature definitely makes this a fun listen!

I was hooked from the beginning, with the odd time and those subtle "chromatic" gestures. And the harmonized flourishes at around 2mins, what fun! I love how this feels loose but never quite out of control. Very playful and interesting, had me smiling the whole way through.

This is bonkers mad and I love it!

I like how FAWM challenges bring forth these kinds of experimental pieces. So nice.

Sounds like a Minuett/Rokoko theme to me! I can imagine people dancing! Interesting piece of music that seems to follow it‘s own rules!
