Heard It Before

Last year I picked up the "Hitmaker" expansion for Superior Drummer 3. It contains many of Hugh Padgham's signature sounds, including that sound he discovered through a heavily compressed, ball and biscuit talkback mic while producing Phil Collins. So I thought I'd have a play to see just how close it gets. As it turns out, it's pretty spot-on. So I had to use it, didn't I? Hugh seems a nice chap; I'm sure he won't mind...

Lyrics
It's in the air That gated snare You know I'm going to steal Though this discussion Of loud percussion Hides more than it reveals
Thank you Phil And thank you Hugh For showing us What drums can do
There is no escaping from it Like some prog rock dinosaur I can't quite put my finger on it But I think I've heard that sound before
It's just a given That pounding rhythm You will end up its slave But when the beat Wants me to cheat I'm going to misbehave
That drum machine Will keep things clean (if strangely artificial) Who would have thought that what it wrought Would be so beneficial?

Well, in my opinion, those drums pass muster and well beyond. That opening drum bit you use is very convincing (and the drum part in your song remains convincing throughout). Nice work. And great pic of Hugh Padgham!
Very cool! Love the Collins drum quote and then the Collins lyric quote. Great change of feel between verse, pre-chorus and chorus. Guitar riffs in the chorus are catchy. Overall, such a great sound.
That is a great meta song. The big gated drums and the endless reverb on the guitars just transport you in a DeLorean right back to the 80s.
Nice!
