Skirmish: Finish the Fragments (@robinleaf)Liner Notes
I love this skirmish! I have so many fragments and this allowed me to use one that's been hanging around for a while. I occasionally feel like the narrator, but thankfully my better side prevails. Thanks for listening!
Lyrics
If you wanna break out Just listen to me You gotta have money To pay their fee
I’m trying as hard as I can Not to be a bitter old man But the sober young folkies Are running this town
Their names are all that you hear We can’t make it any more clear Cause the sober young folkies Are bending your ear
You’re not as good as your friends say you are If you don’t come around, you’ll never get far
If you wanna be heard Just get in the line You have to be one Of their special divine Cause the sober young folkies Are running this town
The ledger reveals all the ones that they know When they finally look upon you You’ll finally grow Cause the sober young folkies are running this show
I’m trying as hard as I can Not to be a bitter old man But the sober young folkies Are running this town The sober young folkies Are running this town The sober young folkies Are running this town

This rang bells for me. Back in the 1980s it was the reverse situation. The established older folkies were running the show and us young bloods found it hard to break into a scene that was a bit of a closed shop.
Happily, one song of mine was heard by one of their daughters and she brought it to his attention and he recorded it with John Kirkpatrick and Sue Harris.
Glad you could connect with the song, and that you eventually found some recognition. The original idea was much more accusatory but I tried to put a little self-deprecation in there because ultimately these feelings aren’t productive or fair to others.
Lolol I was listening before I read the words cuz I was multitasking and I thought you were saying "sober going fogies" at first. 😅 I like this! I like the attitude and the punchy rhythm that you give when you want to add emphasis. Perfectly captured the attitude of getting annoyed with a younger generation lol.
Feel free to use this prompt again to make yourself finish another thing! I'm going to do that. Probably tomorrow.
