No Vacancy In Heaven

Liner Notes
I was paired with @lyricslinger in the random collaborations challenge. He pitched this lyric as "a Meat Loaf type of song". A chance to channel my inner Jim Steinmann and get a bit melodramatic and over-the-top? Yes, I'm in!
I'd love to flesh this arrangement out with guitars (aside from the placeholder solo) and bass and whatnot, and maybe more polished vocal tracks, but with the end of the sprint approaching and me having yet to upload anything else, here's the piano- and drums-driven demo version. I had a lot of fun with this!

Lyrics
(Verse 1) I saw your perfect silhouette You left the curtains open My heart filled with regret Every promise I had lies broken
(Verse 2) I saw his Ferrari parked Its bumper next to your Mini But he wasn’t at the wheel I know that he’s where I’d die to be
(Chorus) Now there’s no vacancy in Heaven Its iron gates slammed closed Looks like I’m stuck down here in Hell, and The Devil came to claim what he was owed
(Verse 3) I’ve been framed, it cost me my love And the villain’s claiming angel wings There are search lights across the night’s sky But this ‘justice’ wears a crooked grin
(Verse 4) I got a tip about a once in a lifetime deal Just had to sell some stones to a buyer Turns out they carried a dead man's name And he'd been burned alive in a fire
(Chorus) Now there’s no vacancy in Heaven Its iron gates slammed closed Looks like I’m stuck down here in Hell, and The Devil came to claim what he was owed
(Bridge) I know that I’m not a saint I never said that I was But I never killed and I don’t think I Deserve my paradise to be lost
(Guitar solo)
(Chorus 2) Now there’s no vacancy in Heaven Its iron gates slammed closed It’s mighty dark down here in Hell The only light’s from these burnin’ coals
(Bridge 2) I can’t prove it but I know who gave that tip Tracked the parcel boy down who said He can’t remember much about the guy But his ride was a streak of gleaming red
(Chorus 2) Now there’s no vacancy in Heaven Its iron gates slammed closed You don’t see me or the god-damn truth I’m just a fading ghost
(Verse 5) But Hell’s fires can’t burn me up I’m holy water as a tidal wave I’ll find a way to make the Devil wish That he was safe in a deep dark grave
(Verse 6) The parcel boy says he'll testify About a prancing horse upon the hood If the cops find traces of the funeral fire My chances go from slim to good
(Verse 7) I’ll find a way to make the truth come out And prove his foul deceit And as he rots in a prison cell I pray that you’ll finally believe
(Outro) So now I'm down on my knees Praying for a miracle Yeah, down on my knees Oh lord, please! Let there be A vacancy
A vacancy in Heaven!!

Thanks, Kevin. This sounds awesome! If you do get a chance to add in the guitar, etc, then would be fab to hear an updated version.
Thanks, Simon! I'm not sure what I'll have time for while the site is still up, but if I get to it in time I'll let you know.
send me the chords and I'll put a bass part to it.
I added chords in with the lyric. The verse, chorus, and bridge sections follow the same progression each time, so I only noted them once. The solo section is essentially the same as the chorus. The BPM is a constant 120. Hope that helps if you decide to give it a go. 🙂
Great collab. definitely a meatloaf feel but I prefer your voice. fabulous harmonies and drum part. I would have liked to collab with a bass part if we had time but I think I've run out of opportunity. Listened a few times. always a good sign.
Thanks for that!
Yasssss this is very Loafy and Meaty. Excellent vocals, it’s perfectly rock operatic. Nice harmonies, and the lyrics are perfect for such soaring music
