I Feel Nothing

Liner Notes
Song 1 (of 2) I'll be uploading this evening. Look on my works ye mighty, etc...
Once again, this began with a #handdrums loop kindly supplied by @nahlej381 and his brother, which I started playing some Lennon/Plastic Ono Band-style big, echoey #piano chords over. The first lines of the verse came out quite Lennony too, so I tried to make a concerted effort to steer the lyrics in a different direction. I quite liked the idea of dropping this rather banal #breakup into an epic musical backdrop. My kids have been really into Flight of the Conchords recently, so the bridge was probably mildly influenced by their song I'm Not Crying. Although I tried to keep it from getting too silly.
Not my greatest vocal (both of today's efforts have been a bit slapdash tbh), but under the time constraints... it's probably fine... š¬
(For non-European listeners, ALDI is a cheap supermarket chain - I think it originated in Germany - which for some reason I only seem to visit when I'm on holiday.)
Lyrics
I donāt want to say That everything is over This is not the way I pictured it would end 6pm in an ALDI car park While the band played on
I donāt want to stand Like a naughty little schoolboy As the sun sets in the west I say, āItās pathetic fallacyā You take your handbag off your shoulder And throw it in my face
And I feel nothing I feel nothing (nothing)
I wish I had seen A thousand little warnings Flashing on the dashboard As we drove on by I guess you try and spare yourself With all these pretty pretty lies
And I feel nothing I feel nothing (nothing)
You can take your armchair and that ornamental rug If you just leave me with the TV and the coffee table and the dog And you can have anything you want from me as long as itās not that And if I catch you coming round my way, thereāll be hell to pay, yeah thereāll be hell to pay Because itās not about the pain you cause, itās the emptiness to come Stretching out forever like the scroll at the start of Star Wars And I know that you deserve more, youāre better than me, you always were But in the absence of an actual plan, Iāll hole up in this room just screamingā¦.
I feel nothing I feel nothing (nothing)

We have ALDI in Florida but Iāve never been. Love those piano chord hammer hammering away and then your voice storms in like a truck with a bit of respite from the softer vocal harmonies. Very nice!
You're not missing much re ALDI š Thanks for the listen Kathy!!
as my tastes tend much more to the lennon side of the beatles, i enjoyed this more than the mccartney take off. still, i think the other collab is the better song because you transcend mccartney, taking the song where he would have been unable to go....while here you run nose to nose with lennon, but i wouldnt want to be the one to call the race. i think there is more to explore with nahlej and i would be excited by a whole album of such explorations.
