Nothing is truly black or white

#folky #singersongwriter Well, that was an interesting prompt. Once I got my head around the concept, I came up with this...
Lyrics
Nothing is truly black and white No matter what we may imagine Search as you will for your dark night Morality hides itself in the margins
And on the fringe of right and wrong We want the world we hear in folk songs The way we want the world to be In contrast to the news we see
Nothing is truly set in stone We want to know what really matters Sometimes we have to face the world alone As we watch the sunlight scatter
Between two bodies light is lost Love turns slowly into frost No one really is to blame And still we call each other names

“Morality hides itself in the margins” is a killer line. It’s indeed the tense situations, full of doubt and uncertainty, in which we’re forced to make our best, and worst, moral decisions.
Thanks for taking up my (unusual) skirmish prompt, en groetjes naar Amsterdam. 😊
This is so beautifully poignant and poetic. Absolutely gorgeous melody flow and gentle guitar. Sad but so full of love and empathy.
"Morality hides itself in the margins" - what a line! Love that whole second "verse"!
Gorgeous song altogether, Gordon! And you are in such good voice here too!
"on the fringe of right and wrong" and "As we watch the sunlight scatter / Between two bodies light is lost" are such perfect phrases for this prompt. Gorgeous song.
Really pretty and understated. The vocal harmonies are sublime. There melancholy to the words that the music, at least to me, almost masks. It's not that the music isn't a touch sad, but it's just feels more introspective than sad, and I like that. Nicely done.
I like how the chorus shifts the meaning. The gentle arpeggios and slow tempo really set the mood.
well thats got a surprising depth to it! yup that morality line is a diamond excellent indeed
