Liner Notes

The awesome @kahlo2013 wrote some lyrics for the Circle of Fifths skirmish, and I added a bit of music.

Liz (kahlo2013) says: I am thrilled that @dr_griff put this to music - his playing is superb and I love the approach he took to the melody - it seems to hit home the importance of being with good friends and the power of relationships. Really lovely! I’m very grateful!

Lyrics

Capo 3, 6/8, fingerpicked

V1 Am nothing better G for a guy F E feeling down F than to find mates G for a night Am on the town

CHORUS C a dozen friends G a mile of bars Am a circle of fifths E a few old guitars F G can chase away Am the blues….

V2 nothing better for a guy all alone than beer and music will his friends all in tow

CHORUS

BRIDGE F there’s nothing worse G than the next day F when the circle of fifths E leaves a price to pay… F but all things have some cost G so I’ll celebrate Am and get the night lost E with friends anyway

CHORUS

This is beautiful. great picking and very bittersweet feel to the whole tune. Lyrics are so powerful! Great work.

Thank you so much. The lyrics pulled me toward the bittersweet, I suppose. Much appreciated!

Very lovely song and collaboration. I didn't have a clue what to write about apart from the key signatures lol. Really like your approach. Solid lyrics, music, singing and playing. Atmospheric song. Love it.

Thank you! It just spoke to me when I read @kahlo2013's lyrics.

Great music to a solid lyric. Love the minor mode melody.

Thank you! It was just the melody that insisted on being there, so I didn't fight it.

This is such a fun take on the prompt, and I love the driving 6/8 picking keeps it rolling right along, had me swaying in my seat and toasting with my water bottle haha

Thank you for the compliment! Much appreciated :)

I love the lyrics and the music. It's almost Medieval, and except for one or two anachronisms, this could be a bard in 1526. Hey, they had mates and beer and guitars (in Spain, at least) who cares if circles of fits didn't appear for another century? Great collaboration! And I'll drink to that...

Thank you for your feedback. You were part of the inspiration for my most recent submission here, "Would There Were Someone," because you mentioned bards and bardic. Thank you for that as well!

@iveg

Very cool. Fun twisting of "circle of fifths"

I was expecting a happier chorus, and a more somber bridge based on the lyrics.

Love the fingerpicking and 6/8 feel. And I do like ¿melodic minor? scale - it was a great choice for a drinking song.

Thank you. I didn't realize until I'd written it that it was supposed to be a drinking song, and I'm glad it works for you.
