A simple story about the family that moved away. Mostly made up.

Lyrics

Lying on the floor, cast off without regret Discarded broken bottles and a half smoked cigarette Cobwebs in the window, dust two inches deep Dirty rags and old t-shirts all piled in one big heap

I don't know how long they've been gone But I know it's been far too long

The family that lived here Moved away long ago They've been gone for years

Where they headed off to Well, I guess I'll never know Funny how folks disappear Best friends aren't forever, so it seems

The yard is overgrown with weeds in the flowerbed The daffodils we planted and the roses are all dead We used to hit a baseball in the lot out by the barn Nothing left but memories when the family lost the farm

I don't know how long they've been gone But I know it's been far too long

The family that lived here Moved away long ago They've been gone for years

Where they headed off to Well, I guess I'll never know Funny how folks disappear Farms don't last forever, so it seems

The father of my best friend couldn't stand to say goodbye He didn't have the words to explain the reasons why It doesn't matter now and I guess it never did

The family that lived here Moved away long ago They've been gone for years

Where they headed off to Well, I guess I'll never know Funny how folks disappear Dreams don't last forever, so it seems Dreams don't last forever, so it seems

Great pickin' and super-cool lyric, all of the physical imagery put that place right there in my head. Being a small-town kid I think I can relate to your lyric a bit more than some. The long notes in your melody stand out nicely. And a nice hook. The little melodic touches in your guitar part sound so good, makes me want to pick up my guitar and try to play along!

Lots of concrete things to "see" and draw me into the song. Very good.

Ultimately quite a sad song to me, maybe sadder than you intended. Lost friends, lost dreams...

Another "old-timer". Nice seeing the familiar names and hearing the familiar voices. Guitar sound great here and your vocals are nice and confident. I think I have lost the "song-writing" recipe, but maybe I'll work on it and get it back.

Oh man, such good storytelling. The images of that house are so strong you can almost smell it...

Well, you just described MY place...

Great song--got a kick of the discordant chord (a 9th? 13th?) there toward the beginning. Love the song and a really good vocal! ❤️
