I am currently re-reading a favourite book from my youth. "Sirius" by Olaf Stapledon. An SF book from the 1940s in which the author speculated on the future of genetic engineering. The protagonist is a large dog that has had his brain power boosted. The fact that Sirius has so many wonderful senses, but a limited colour palette frustrates him. As colours were the theme, this one just leapt off the page at me!

That people saw him just as a "clever boy" was true Few outside the lab knew the things that he could do The language that he used sounded rather absurd And your ordinary human could not understand a word

Sirius pondered daily on the meaning of life His conversations with scientists with mix-ups were rife The bipeds couldn't comprehend what went on in his head And frustration with his colour palette dogged him till he was dead
