Café Crush
Skirmish: Summer Lovin' (@atornberg)Liner Notes
#lyricsonly #needsmusic Lyrics: Another song narrative that comes from a tarot reading. I tried to go all in with the nervous repetition, a technique I hardly ever use.
Lyrics
Everyone’s been talking Talking about the mango tea The same way they’ve been talking Talking about you and me
Yeah we’ve been seen here Seen here more than twice They say we make a cute pair With the straws and the crushed ice
And if I’m a café crush I can be a café crush
Your drink looks good Yeah your drink looks so nice And of course it would Our drinks are made from the same ice
Now what was I talking about Oh yeah the mango Wouldn’t it be wild to see How mangoes actually grow
I know it gets here in a bottle Which means it gets here from a factory Which means it’s more than half sugar Like the way that you are looking at me
And if you’re a café crush You can be a café crush
Your drink looks good Yeah your drink looks so nice And of course it would Our drinks are made from the same ice
The problem with summer is Before you know it ends And then what becomes Of your summer friends
Your drink looks good Yeah your drink looks so nice And of course it would Our drinks are made from the same ice

I hear reggae for this one. What melody do you have in mind?
The repetition is for the most part, coy, which really works. In the verses the repeating lines are transformed just enough to sound different, but in agreement with each other. Sort of like flirtation?
I love “cafe crush” as a phrase, and the chorus lines about being made with the same ice. Cool (no pun intended) write!
