Going For the Record

Lyrics
Twenty days and counting, I’ve been watching from the sofa. I’m going for a record, ‘cause I’m sure it must exist. The games, the close analysis, The highlights and heroics, I’ve even watched the replays, with not one second missed.
One massive keg of lager, with a tube to where I’m sitting, Another tube that runs away to where you’ll surely guess. I’m getting all my nutrients While losing concentration, Though, soccer rules are fuzzy even when I’m at my best.
The team in blue is winning, then it’s tied, then it’s losing. The team in green has scored again and everyone’s surprised. I hear announcers saying that; First-hand proof is missing, For all of them are wearing red when seen through bloodshot eyes.
I see now that Australia has a wallaby take corners. Germany has shepherds while France has fielded mimes. I’ve found that sport reality’s Adjusting my perception. I think perhaps this record’s gonna stand a long, long time.

lol oh I love this Phil! The plight of increasingly delusional, too long on the couch potato.
Fun and funny and a great commentary on what happens when you spend too long watching ANYTHING .... I like the first person POV too
I am reveling in the irony of dedication vs. search for meaning. And the fast-paced writing is the perfect delivery for this message!
this is a clever take on futbol from someone who doesnt really care for or understand the game. personally, i find it a ridiculous sport, although it is fun to wach the players move about like multibal balls in a pinball machine.. unlike basketball, the scores seldom reflect the quality of either team's performance. it is like a boxing match during which the fighter who has been pummelled the most visiously lands a lucky punch that knocks ot his superior opponent, and wins the match.
The second tube is a funny twist, not hard to understand but still surprising — well done.
