This Can't Be Real (Collab)
Liner Notes
The lovely @smudge wrote some lyrics (see: https://fawm.org/songs/328751) and I offered a tune. Here's the collab.
Lyrics
Verse 1 Floating back to our Wooded childhood street I see our house Our old willow tree
Floating back to our Wooded childhood street It’s in plain view But I don’t see you
Verse 2 As I go inside To the living room I float through walls The electric moon
As I go inside The electric moon Brightens everything But I don’t see you
Chorus This can’t be real So what is the deal? You’ve gone away? But I’m doomed to stay?
This can’t be real So what is the deal? You’ve gone away? This can’t be real
Verse 3 Our old radio Played our favourite songs Can’t turn it on There’s clearly something wrong
Our old radio Played our favourite songs All your stuff is here But I don’t see you
Chorus
Bridge All the past So far away Like a frozen dream In a gilded frame
All the past So far away Like a frozen dream In a gilded frame
Chorus

Thank you! I’m glad it hits both of those notes.
Thank you so much @wylddandelyon!
How sweet and sad. The repetition takes a lightness and makes it heavier and heavier. Grief as an accretion of disbelief.
Thanks for this @nancycunning! You nailed the "disbelief" concept of grief :)
Haunting! I dont know what the electric moon is, but your lyric makes me see it - my own version of it - illuminating a childhood home which has all the trappings of the singers childhood but is missing the heart and spirit which made it such a lived experience - It all feels like it is a dream - implied but never stated. I enjoyed this a lot!
I am so, so glad that you like it! Thank YOU for the opportunity!
This is really pretty. It does feel dreamy, almost like a remote viewing sort of experience that you you can't snap out of. The emotion of loss is clear and present. Very impactful. The line "This can't be real" is a frightfully uneasy line I understand all too well.
i have had many dreams on this theme..and the doctor's vocals have a dream quality. it seems to observe the past through a present glass, but is more ghostly than nostalgic.
Thank you, Bill. Your feedback is so appreciated. :)
Thanks @billwhite51! Your comments on how it the lyrics observe the past through the present glass and are more ghostly than nostalgic is very insightful (and deep!)
This is so pretty and so sad. Great job, both of you!
