Liner Notes

Sapient: When Emplate said "Let's do a post-punk song!" I said "YES!" and then scurried off to see what bands I could rip off... Imagine my delight when Google said it could be Joy Division, New Order, The Cure etc... It is always a pleasure to collab with Emplate, and this one feels extra special - like something that you might have heard John Peel play in 1981 😀

Emplate: FAWM metalheads turned goths! What Sapient left out was that when I sent him that mail, it was 5 am and I was very wasted... But hearing what he pulled out, I started to think maybe I should send him drunken small hour e-mails more often! Was a blast working on this. I've had a really fun time exploring the more punk-oriented shouting in addition to my usual black/death growling stuff.

Lyrics

We who worship the endtimes Our time is now Gleaming in the horizon The dawn of redemption

A death dance Hand in hand

A final judgement Lights up the cities Neverending spiral Devouring all

A death dance Hand in hand

Our time is now A final judgement A death dance Hand in hand

A death dance Over nameless graves Hand in hand Under mushroom clouds

If I had to pick a band that I'd say this sounds like, it would be Killing Joke. It's got that goth-y, doom-laden nihilistic vibe to it, with the wall of guitars playing really unexpected chords. I like. I like very much.

Yeah, I also got some Killing Joke from Sapients composition, and I love Killing Joke! There are not many metal bands who can come close to how apocalyptic they sound.

When I see both names with the hashtag radiofriendly, I wonder what the heck has happened. And yes, good things happened. You have all the energy, and the early feels of punk music. I especially enjoyed the lead tone. Lucky i'm not the only one who identified "A Forest" in that break

Hahaha, we were kinda hoping this would be a curveball seeing what people likely expect from us! Glad you liked it! :) And yes, I also immediately went "a-HA!" when hearing that part. That is why I did the whispered vocals, they're a reference to Carpathian Forest's cover of "A Forest" :D

i loved the cheeky nod to the cure's "a forest" at the 1m30s mark. that causatic atonal guitar from 2m10s brings an unexpected tension that gets transmuted in the spiralling fuzzy outro. good one!!

Ha ha - yeah, I had to fight so hard with myself not to end that bassline with the 4th note that would have made it total theft ;)

Cheers! Hahah, I wonder did anyone pick up my A Forest reference in the song. I did the whispering vocals partly because Carpathian Forest's cover of the song has whispered vocals! :D

If its possible i probably spent too may hours listening to JP! if this is post its only just post I stood in 100 auditoriums listen to this style, many nowhere near as good as this and i was paying good money! It does get a bit post punk after 2 minutes there i see Joy division influence. Brilliant song!

Cheers!

I'm not as well-versed in what makes something post-punk, but I was definitely getting the Cure from the bridge. But it's not about how much I know about music, it's about whether I enjoyed it. And I did :)

[pic]

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the ride! :)

I LOVE the last note of the hook. That's just so satisfying. This is an awesome mashup! I feel like I just wanna curl up on the natty leather couch in y'alls garage for a sick diy house show while everyone else is moshing between the bikes and recycle bins.

Go on, there's room on the couch!
