My Hometown Was Just Fine, Actually

Liner Notes
I've had a lot of success this year with going through old notes and ideas and seeing things I hadn't seen before. I had a couple of words for this one as far back as 2023. I don't know what I had in mind then, but it came together pretty quick this year.
That all said, I hit a bit of a wall the last two days and had to go with some familiar territory to get out of it. This song just proves the harder I try NOT to write a Less Than Jake song, the more likely I am to just write one.
Lyrics
Everybody knew my name, now I can't quite say the same The book and record shops have closed, replaced with stores that I don't know
But I couldn't go back, even if I wanted I can't afford, the way of life my parents flaunted
Growing up was not that bad, we got along with what we had Never one to write that song, about a home where everything was wrong Where everything was wrong, where everything was wrong
I could start a family here, Nice to have my parents near I worry that if I went home, I'd become a person I don't know
But I couldn't go back, even if I wanted I can't afford, the way of life my parents flaunted
Growing up was not that bad, we got along with what we had Never one to write that song, about a home where everything was wrong Where everything was wrong, where everything was wrong
It's a beautiful place, With plenty of space I didn't feel trapped, My life force zapped I had friends and I had art Let's be honest it's a beautiful place to start it's a beautiful place to start, it's a beautiful place to start
Growing up was not that bad, we got along with what we had Never one to write that song, about a home where everything was wrong Where everything was wrong, where everything was wrong

Nice tune! The title is fantastic btw lol. I don’t know if I would’ve automatically thought Less Than Jake, but once you mentioned it I could see what you were talking about.
Sometimes the universe is just telling you to write a LTJ song right?
Part of which is writing a bass part that moves but isn't psychotic and settles down when it needs to and I think you did a great job of that, hitting the big beefy chords too when needed!
The harmony vocals work great throughout too.
Right on cap'n.
