The End of the Trail

Liner Notes

#country #acoustic Just a little sketch here, flubs and all, to take advantage of the opportunity to work with a Graham/Daniel lyric. It's pretty crude, but maybe gets the idea across. My second song about a "trail" this FAWM. Maybe it's a sign I should hit one.

Lyrics

The End Of The Trail Lyrics - Graham/Daniel Music - Jeff Walker

They both wore cowboy boots On their wedding day No one was surprised They didn't have too much to say

A cowboy and cowgirl so much in love They were tired of waiting, they’d waited long enough

chorus: Somehow lovers find each other Take that journey to discover Whether or not love will prevail They'll find out at the end of the trail

verse: They bought a double wide On a one acre lot It wasn't long Until they welcomed a son

Both were working their full-time jobs But it seemed like the bills would never stop

bridge: They worked their land and raised their son And built the house of their dreams They persevered 'til they were done And those two wranglers rode away

repeat chorus:

Wonderful guitar and harmonies. Very human!! Nice chorus, lyrical and musical.

This is packed with a whole lot of country goodness. I love all the details in the story. Really helps me connect with the characters. Jeff's vocals are perfection. The harmonies are a nice touch. Excellent collab all around!

Thanks to all for listening. I been kind of fawming out, and I know Vaughan has. He's dealing with some stuff, and I have been checking a lot of those regular doctor deals. A doctor for every body part. Lawd. I'm fine so not saying anything bad....

Always love your 1+1 songs! The harmonies in the p-c and chorus was unexpected, but a nice touch. The lyrical story is interesting due to the final outcome (in the bridge). The ending fades out rather quickly, while you're still singing? (maybe the fadeout started too early?)

Forgot to hit send I guess, so I sort of forgot what I wrote when thanking you, Mike. But also admitting that you're right about the fade out. I was trying to cheat and cover up a flub. Too busy/lazy to redo the whole thing and couldn't figure out another way to patch it up.

Nice story - I almost wanted the lyrics to be personified where the person doing the singing was the son, and he has a moment to say how he is now the wrangler. I dont think I have heard you do harmonies before - they do a good job of conveying the emotion of the story in the verse-chorus transition. I think my favorite part of this song is the prechorus - it allows Jeff to get that deep emotion into the song that we all know is his gift. I have to say, I misread the title as trial (as in legal trial) - so when you say in your liner notes you needed to get one of your own soon, I was surprised!!

Much obliged, Mr. Kebab! And that's a cool idea for a little twist on the story that could be interesting to try. Your comments are so, generous, Andrew, and I'm very grateful for them, for the listen and the deep dive. And yes, may we all stay out of trial territory.

When you three collab something great happens. You just got that magic! I don't have big knowledge about countries but this is exactly how I imagine a classic. A story about a family, with land etc...

Very kind of you, Nadine. Many thanks.

Love that they both wore cowboy boots on their wedding day. We got married during the 90s great country music heyday when it seemed everybody was into country music - even in Silicon Valley where I met my husband. He seemed like the last guy I’d expect to listen to country music (even had a black hat and cool grey boots for country dancing) so that got my attention - lol! Of course, he’s a big fan of yours. And this is classic Jeff. And, yeah, I’m so ready to get back on that western trail to take me back home.

Mighty kind of you, Kathy. Thanks so much!
