A quick draft of lyrics before I have to rush out...

(For the record, my dog is actually very young < 2 years old.)

Lyrics

Old dog Grizzle muzzle Looking puzzled Still haven't figured this world out

Humans we are crazy When we're not we're lazy Sitting on our asses When there's hunting to be done Too often alone Chewing bitter bones No pack around to keep us sane

Old dog Rheumy eyes Still surprised At the beauty of this world

I knew you when you were a young pup Thought I knew then how to bring you up Treated you human, big mistake Only learned canine when it was far too late

Old dog Still you love me No one above me Still my number one fan

Other dogs are running free You are happy to stay with me Even though you could still outpace me You could easily outpace me I just don't understand Why you simply never ran away

Old dog You slowed down You old hound I knew you when you were young. I think I like you better now.

These are such honest heartfelt lyrics. "Only learned canine when it was far too late" and "chewing bitter bones" are such a great lines. And yes, don't we wonder why they stay when they could leave. A dog's devotion is truly miraculous and i am very glad to hear your dog is young.

Thanks for your kind words. Hopefully I'll have a demo up before too long.

Lovely tribute to old dogs - canine and otherwise I think (sometimes I consider myself an "old dog" in many ways). We have a dog and a cat who are getting up there in years (and another young cat), so can very much relate to this lyric. Also, here in NYC I see so many old dogs out on the street walking with their owners - I always have a lot of respect for them.

Yes, it's the original "special relationship". Thanks for the kind words.

Lovely evocation of dog ownership, with all the pitfalls and moments of joys. "Too often alone Chewing bitter bones No pack around to keep us sane"

AND "I just don't understand Why you simply never ran away"

That is masterful writing. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Thanks, kind words indeed. I do often wonder how they can put up with the way they're treated sometime.

What a beautiful and thoughtful lyric this is - the kind that can only come from real experience ❤️

Thanks, my current dog is actually very young, but I have known and loved old dogs in my time.

What a lovely tribute to an old dog. They really do look up to us and out for us don't they. Good job

Yeah, they have thrown their lot in with us, for better or worse, just hope it's always for the better.
