Skirmish: Gold, Silver, Bronze (@corinnecurcio)Liner Notes
#skirmish #guywithpiano #lovesong The Olympics have been fun to watch, but I'm always dismayed at the fate of those who don't get a medal. They worked hard and deserve our appreciation, but if you're not up on that podium, forget it. That led to thinking about bronze, silver and gold relationships, but what about platinum? Rhodium? Unobtanium? Well, this may be a bit scattered (and it is a skirmish) but it's FAWM, so I'll put it out there for comment. And then go listen to Tom Lehrer's "The Elements".
Lyrics
PRECIOUS CONNECTIONS FAWM Skirmish 2/22/26 © 2026 raspberry33
What makes something precious? How it sparkles in the light Then should we purchase diamonds with our gold?
What makes something precious? The silver coins in our pockets Have long been silver-plated, so I’m told
Chorus: Does everything have to be ranked Or might we acknowledge beauty everywhere? If gold ranks the finest, how does silver define us While we honor with bronze statues in the square.
Verse 2: What makes something precious? Could it be love that connects us Better than silver, bronze or gold?
Are we making the investments That will lead to reassessments If platinum is a buy, sell or hold.
Chorus:
Instrumental (sax solo)
Bridge: You never see Rhodium On the Olympic podium It’s 1-2-3 Gold, Silver and Bronze No one in the stadium Cheers for finishing Palladium Though ounce for ounce the price will give you pause
Verse 3: Is there anything more precious? Than the love that connects us Better than silver, bronze or gold? Are we making the investments That will lead to reassessments If love today is a buy, sell or hold

I really love how you approached and accomplished this skirmish! Loving your vocals and piano for the lovely melody! And the message in your lyrics is profound and one so many of us rarely think about! Your song makes one think about the curious and arbitrary ways we assign value and we all go along with it! I always marvel at the fact that diamonds are not truly rare but are carefully controlled! Anyway, excellent take on the skirmish!
Thanks, John, though I think you won this skirmish with https://fawm.org/songs/327659. Anyone who has/had a grandma should listen!
I totally get where you are coming from, and really love your take on the prompt. You ask a lot of really good questions and your song gives us a lot to think about. Is that stand up bass I hear? A wonderful add to the song. I really enjoyed it. Your title is awesome also! Great skirmish.
Thanks! I play bass, but don't have a stand-up yet! Believe it or not, it's a GarageBand patch. The song sounded a bit thin with just vocals and piano, and it was hurried take with a few mistakes, but I'll fix it in the mix.
This is a fabulous perspective with empathic insight to how we value the beauty in the diversity around us. Love the questions you raise which linger as the lovely instrumental encourages us to pause. Love the rhymes and really love the sentiment as delivered by the gorgeous music and melody you delivered.
