Skirmish: Gold, Silver, Bronze (@corinnecurcio)Liner Notes
I saw the prompt and nothing came at first. Then I thought about my grandma and how she had silver hair and a heart of gold and she was my earthly angel and...Wow, I was off to the races and finished faster than any skirmish yet this year! And I LOVE this one!!! It will definitely get writing tweaks and a full production later on! Thank you @corinnecurcio !

You Were My Angel February 22, 2026 https://johnstaplesmusic.com/FAWM2026/JohnStaples-YouWereMyAngel.mp3
you planted flowers I pulled them up you helped me "bake" those pies of mud we fed your chickens and guinea hens wish I could do it all again
you were my angel truth be told hair of silver heart of gold you held my hand through thick and thin you always helped me find my way back home again
you watched me playing and held me tight tucked me in said prayers at night you taught me honesty kindness and grace your loving arms kept me safe
you were my angel truth be told hair of silver heart of gold you held my hand through thick and thin you always helped me find my way back home again
earthly angel heaven sent words can't express how much you meant all the love you brought to bear we'll meet again someday I'll see you there
you were my angel truth be told hair of silver heart of gold you held my hand through thick and thin you always helped me find my way back home again
you always helped me find my way back home again
you always helped me find my way back home again

This is absolutely brilliant, John!!!! Such a lovely tribute to such a special person! So much wonderful nostalgia with those vivid vignettes that helped build the man the little boy became. The love is palpable and rich. Your finger picking and tender flowing melody is absolutely gorgeous and conveys the loving sentiment as it tugs on the heartstrings of the listener.
true inspiration really flows. A real life story and a tribute. Nice picking and a lovely delivery, Its very authentic. great skirmish - well just great anyway, could be tweaked but really good in its raw state.
This is beautiful, it all has an easy, warm grace. Awesome skirmish result!
She sounded wonderful! Such a greatidea and I love the easy great feeling it gives me!
Wow, this prompt produced some excellent responses, and yours is one of the best. I love your vocals and finger-picking. Wish I could play this for my grandma; maybe she's got a FAWM link from heaven. Superb skirmish!
Oh my goodness - "hair of silver, heart of gold" - what a precious take on the prompt, and to know it is about someone you loved makes this hit even harder. Wonderful fingerstyle playing and your gorgeous vocals carrying this heartfelt melody is just beautifully. Oh your bridge - you are making me cry. What a gift to be able to write a song like this and have someone like this to write a song about. These lyrics paint a picture of such a special relationship. This song was so moving. If you never wrote a song about your grandma before how cool this prompt brought it out from you. I totally love this and would love to hear the final version with production and everything - don't change anything else because it is perfect! Great skirmish!
Beautiful song! The lyrics really resonate with me.
Beautiful ode and a refreshing take on the prompt! Thematically, this puts me in the mind of one of my favorite songs, "How's Your Garden Grow?" by Justin Farren. Another grandmother tribute.
This is a wonderful tribute to your grandma and wonderfully delivered. Really enjoyed this one. Good skirmish and a very different take on the prompt.
Wouldn't it be nice if your grandmother could know that you made this tribute for her! Heartfelt and beautiful, John.
