I just HAD to do this.

I found this piece of software called Synthesizer V, that lets you create vocals by defining the melody and lyrics. So I wrote a song about exactly this. I'll let Liam (the voice) take up from here :)

I used the default settings on the voice. It does require some adjustments to get things right. If you simply enter the notes 'on grid', the timing is all wrong. You have to adjust for short and long syllables and sometimes, the placement of consonants between vowels requires a little adjustment.

Then, you can edit the actual phonemes to change the pronunciation. This also allows inserting breaths before each phrase, and insert glottal stops, which I did for example before the words 'AI', 'our' and 'own' and in a few other cases where vowels would otherwise transition into each other.

It's not perfect. Especially the words 'whatever' and 'interest' aren't pronounced the way I wanted. That said, I think it's pretty damn good at what it does, especially at the parts of the melody with the large jumps. I only needed pitch correction in 1 place.

And there's lots more to discover. For this little experiment, I decided that a simple piano accompaniment suffices. Also, yes, the 5 verses are in total 10 times the same melody. Piano is from Pianoteq.
