I wrote a Breakup Song for this one...not sure if I totally met the theme. However, these words came to me.

These lyrics centre on the fear of losing someone and the painful realisation that love does not guarantee permanence.

At its heart, the song captures the moment when a relationship begins to unravel — not through a dramatic event, but through a subtle shift. In the first verse, the narrator senses something has changed just by looking into their partner’s eyes. There are questions left unasked, truths unspoken, and an emotional distance forming that cannot be ignored.

The second verse reveals desperation. The narrator is grasping for solutions, unwilling to accept that years together might be discarded “for something new.” There’s a fragile dependency here — the idea that if this person leaves, the narrator’s world might collapse. The repeated line “we can’t count on tomorrow” becomes both a warning and a plea, emphasising the uncertainty of love and life itself.

The chorus expresses raw vulnerability. The narrator is drowning in sorrow, willing to beg or borrow, but ultimately powerless. The repeated confession — “I love you… so…” — feels almost childlike in its sincerity, as though love alone should be enough to stop someone from leaving.

In the third verse, regret takes centre stage. The narrator hears “forever dying” in the other person’s footsteps — a powerful metaphor for a future slipping away. Even when love is spoken aloud, it doesn’t seem to land. There’s a sense that timing, pride, or emotional barriers have already done irreversible damage.

Overall, the song is about impermanence and emotional helplessness. It reflects the painful truth that tomorrow is never promised — not in life, and not in love — and that sometimes, even when feelings are genuine, they cannot prevent goodbye.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Today, I saw something, in your eyes I had questions, but I couldn’t ask why The answer, was something I couldn’t hear You’re leaving me, need to face the fear [Verse 2] There must be something, I can do Throwing away years, for something new My world might end, if you choose to go I guess, I can’t count on, tomorrow [Chorus] We can’t count on tomorrow I’m drowning in sorrow We can’t count on tomorrow Even if I beg and borrow We can’t count on tomorrow I love you…so… Yeah…I love you…so… We can’t count on tomorrow… [Chorus] We can’t count on tomorrow I’m drowning in sorrow We can’t count on tomorrow Even if I beg and borrow We can’t count on tomorrow I love you…so… Yeah…I love you…so… We can’t count on tomorrow… [Verse 3] I hear forever dying, in your steps One thing killing me, is regret I said, I love you, then I was hushed I’ll try again, before we become dust But…you taught me… [Chorus] We can’t count on tomorrow I’m drowning in sorrow We can’t count on tomorrow Even if I beg and borrow We can’t count on tomorrow I love you…so… Yeah…I love you…so… We can’t count on tomorrow…
