the prettiest ugly song

Liner Notes

#fatherdaughter #acoustic #singersongwriter My 15 year old daughter Riel and I had planned to write a song together this year during FAWM and today was the day. Over breakfast I told her that for some reason I can't write pretty songs anymore. I played some riffs I had and she started writing. Once I had the guitar parts recorded, I showed her how to use the DAW to practice, and when I asked how she was doing a half hour or so later, she had already recorded all of her vocal parts. I did some editing and mixing, but everything good about this song is her!

This one will be revisiting and fine tuning post FAWM.

Lyrics

if fairy tales taught me anything it's that geese can turn to swans and mice to kings but that's not how all stories go and you've just got to let it show cause some tunes are diamonds in the rough and some songs make the sunshine blush the darkness of the story fades when you hear the light serenade with sad sounds the beauty is never gone it's the prettiest of ugly songs

I'm sorry if it's contradictory is this cute or just naive beauty is never really gone it's the prettiest of ugly songs

when I see the sun in the sky do you look for clouds to make you cry do you look for the storm's loving eye what lies at the melody I hope she's friendly if you let those guys get you down you'll never see the prize that lies beyond the shore I promise there's so much more people focus on the brute the guns that fire when they shoot I've met the beauty in the pain the words written by paths of shame

I'm sorry if it's contradictory is this cute or just naive beauty is never really gone it's the prettiest of ugly songs

Wow, this is lovely and moving. This is such a pretty song, and it has such a jaunty bounce in its step. I love the melody and the way the vocals overlap. What to say: I love it all the way
